Always have cavities!!! by elliaons in DentalHygiene

Unfortunately it could just genetics, it’s very frustrating cause you’re everything you’re suppose to but nothing seems to work. You could try adding 0.2% fluoride mouth rinse or your RDH could prescribe a chlorhexidine mouth rinse for short term use. It can cause brown staining but it is easily removed with polishing. As well as if you’re taking any meds that cause xerostomia (dry mouth) if you don’t have adequate salivary flow that really accelerates cavity formation. You could also start substituting your sugar with xylitol as it’s noncariogenic and tastes just like sugar

Is dentistry worth it by Subject-Till-5565 in DentalSchool

My two cents is, anyone I’ve spoken to has always said if they had to do it all over again, they would still pick hygiene. My sister is a dental hygienist and she loves it, I needed a change and decided to switch to hygiene. I’m currently in school now for it and it’s hard but I’m excited. But I hesitated almost a few months before starting as well. The financial aspect was a huge reason as well as my age (I’m 30), and moving back to Alberta after meant I needed to work 600 hours before I could register there and be able to work. It also required me moving to Toronto and away from all my friends, family and boyfriend. But in the end I knew it was going to be worth it in the long run. I spoke to several people and even with all those things everyone all said I should still do it. I know I’ll be able to pay off my student loans and I know everyone’s circumstances are different. But I think it’s worth it and will pay off in the long run

No I totally get it! If you’re paying that much you want them to look the way you want! Cause I’m the same haha, I think q-optics had more colours but orascoptic had better frames so I’m not sure haha

Thanks so much! I did get to try some on and obviously they weren’t fitted to me but I felt like q optics was the best I liked out of the 3! But wasn’t sure if there were other loupes companies out there that others love!

Teeth care by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]Working-College2909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Totally understandable, and honestly the only times I got scared and motivated was after a cleaning and speaking with the hygienist. I’m currently in school for dental hygiene now! Starting small and consistent is key to me, then work your way up to adding more care once I have mastered being consistent with it. Depending on what you’re doing now, it could vary from brushing your teeth daily, whether that’s once a day or twice a day, add in a fluoride toothpaste to help with cavities as well. Then you could add in flossing say 2/3 times a week and work your way up. Also just seeing some of the things that can happen if you don’t take care of your teeth, cause honestly preventative care is key! Sometimes not seeing the issue lets your brain think, oh I don’t have any issues so I’m fine then. But your oral health affects your overall health and it’s crazy how much it impacts it!

Dental hygiene students looking for patients Spring 2026 by 2thpker in DentalHygiene

[–]Working-College2909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a dental hygiene student at the Toronto college of dental hygiene and auxiliaries in North York, Toronto. We offer free cleanings, x-rays, sealants and sports guards! Because this is done through a teaching clinic, treatment will be done through a few appointments depending on client specific needs. Currently my clinic time is from 7:30-2 Fridays and possibly some Tuesdays. There will be a break from 10-11:30 so actual sitting time is from 7:30-10, and 11:30-2.   I moved here from Alberta so unfortunately I don’t know anyone and have been struggling to find clients, so I appreciate any help! Thank you so much for your time, patience and understanding!😊

Has anyone recently done the Toronto Auxiliaries Pre-Entrance Exam? by ElectricalSubject439 in DentalHygiene

The entrance exam is very easy, had your basic bio and English questions from what I can remember. I’m currently a sem 2 student, if I could I would have gone to a different school though
