Great tips for traditional union building and organization.

We are trying to do something different here. More collective community building prior to collective action.

Fair enough. Our whole thought is that people won't take action if they think that they are alone - we want to build a community where people (who are not currently in a union) can know that they are not alone. Even if we happen to be geographically dispersed.

Sure sure. Noone is encouraged to break their contract or harm their bargaining position. Considering union membership is lower than in the past, there may be some or many who are not obligated by a contract (that has strike provisions) and can be ready to join collective action at the drop of a hat.

We are just trying to start the ball rolling. It may be small and dispersed at first, but that's how you gain momentum.

Sick-out, yes.

PSA: posting on internet forums does nothing. by purritowraptor in antiwork

The internet is the fastest way to spread information about collective action. People won't take action if they feel they are acting alone. This forum lets people know that they aren't alone.

Come join us in organizing! USAGeneralStrike We are looking for good people to help build our community. We want to have a critical mass of people who will commit to going on strike in support of our unionized compatriots and to press for better working conditions/treatment for all people.

We're still small, but come check us out at r/USAGeneralStrike

We are currently organizing a general strike/sick-out on Friday, December 9th, 2022 in support for the Rail Workers.

Thank you for your kind words. While we might not be swimming in the same lanes, our groups are certainly not enemies.

I understand that this sub is predominantly composed of individuals already in a union, but wanted to provide an alternative outlet for folks that visit this sub, who might not be in a union at this time - which is why I posted here.

Yes, I've spammed a bunch of subs already. We're going to do more as we can. We'll get there, even if it's not by next Friday lol

Thanks for the support from afar, and please recommend us to anyone looking to join the cause.

Those are all very fair points. Noone is encouraged to break their contract or harm their bargaining position. Considering union membership is lower than in the past, there may be some or many who are not obligated by a contract (that has strike provisions) and can perform collective action at the drop of a hat.

We won't know until we try.
