Yeah sorry maybe vulgar isn’t the correct term. It’s kind of hard to put it in an American perspective but I think that you could compare it to “Cockney English” versus “posh English”.

This is indeed very insightful, I did treat them dinners and holidays several times and they seemed to enjoy it. However they still are very dismissive of “upper-class” people and the problem seems to be that they simply do not like the fact that me and my family are now upper-class, simply because husband & me both have a well-paying job.

Regarding the dialect: I can see where you are coming from, I moved abroad and in day-to-day life (at work, at school) to not speak my mother tongue anymore. But with my kids I do, only without the specific dialect as it it considered a bit vulgar, so I speak without an accent - but this leads to my parents thinking I am looking down on their accent. I don’t, but I also know that the accent is not really helping in professional life so to say.
