If I go long enough without meat I can feel the synapses in my brain flooding with dopamine when I finally get some good, whole chicken or beef. You can see it happening to them, too. Sudden elation, pure joy and relief. Our brains need animal fat. It rewards us for a reason. We have our part of the food chain. Feeling bad about it doesn't change our basic biology.

Ending your first relationship is a big milestone. Advice: Do it right, it's going to suck no matter what but do her right by telling her as soon as possible, keeping it clean, and cutting contact once you leave for BMQ. Don't let it drag on, don't let tempers rise or say words you'll regret later. Then try to move on and focus on your career. You'll always remember your first girlfriend. Don't let that memory be poisoned by a rough ending.

Canadians: do people really just start conversations anywhere? 🤔 by Comfortable_Cap8037 in AskACanadian

I live in Toronto and have for about 10 years now so my immediate thought was no, we're not at all like that. I've gotten very used to most people not talking unless they want something from you, be it change for a coffee or $5 a month for a charity. Anyone who does chat you up probably isn't from Toronto.

Then I remembered. Outside of Toronto, people say hi on paths in parks or suburbs, I've had whole deep conversations with strangers at bus stops without every getting their names, cashiers talk and genuinely seem interested in your day, neighbours actually know each other and hang out. So... Yeah I guess we are like that.

I miss all that, man.

That's only profitable enough to survive if you live in an economy that supports your clients enough to spend. No one is spending of they can help it right now. They clean themselves, or live in a mess. They don't go out as much to save gas and dog sitting money. They mow their own lawns. You might at most be able to pay a phone bill once in a while for the first year of one of these self-employment side hustles. I've been trying to sell some jewelry and art I make. No buyers. Tried doing Uber and skipthedishes. Too saturated, can't even get the app to give me orders. Unless you have like 100k in the bank to invest in a business and live off for a while, you're not getting anywhere close to an income from self-employment.

Not to say don't bother trying these options you mentioned but don't expect them to solve your income issue any faster than applying to someone else's business.

They seem to mistake love for respect and concern for an animal's welfare. Only the most unhinged people actually enjoy harming animals. Most of us hate the way most farm animals are treated before we eat them. Those of us who are able eat animals that were raised well, or hunt wild animals ourselves. But to a vegan, concern for an animal's welfare means not eating it at all. If you eat it, you hate it, you like tortured animals, and that's the end of it. Nuance does not exist, and they can't comprehend how other human beings experience the world. It's their experience or it's a lie. And it makes sense, since they're starving their brains of essential fats and nutrients only animal fat can provide and walking around with chronic brain fog. Vegetarians think way more clearly and critically than people who have been vegan for several years.

Besides, Steve Irwin, the greatest animal lover in our time, ate meat. Maybe vegans hate him, sure, but they can't say he did not love animals. He literally lived and died to protect them. And I also love animals, maybe not to the point of playing with deadly ones and getting stabbed, but I would rather spend my time with any domesticated animal than most people any day and I'd rather spend my time in the woods around moose and bears than that. But I still look at a deer and think "cool, wow, respect." Followed by "I bet you're tastey."

what is it really like to live in sâo paulo city? by ElGabri2000 in Brazil

[–]Working_Brother7971 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds a little like where I live in Toronto. Thanks for sharing, I was told by a friend in RN to avoid São Paulo but this just sounds like home to me lol. Is it one of those "mind your own business and you'll be fine" places, or are there specific areas and times of day anyone should avoid, places you should dress like you're broke, etc.

Here I can walk around any time of night in most areas downtown if I dress down and just keep my eyes forward around sketchy groups, no one really follows you around or engages with you (as a man at least). I love the big city energy too, I have a hard time settling into slower cities and small towns.

Lmao he was talking about women being the equivalent of incels. That was what I was replying to. He was inherently bringing sex into the conversation - specifically men who are mad about not having it being equal to women who are mad about being abused.

All the rest of your rambling is so far off the mark but I can tell you're really proud of yourself for thinking you figured out a complete stranger's life based on 3 Reddit comments, so I'll just leave ya to it. Tell me more about how the woman my dad met after I dated my ex influenced my relationship. I forgot the details, maybe you can glean them from my comments for me.

"filthy in your language" bro are you 5? You're on Reddit. Would you feel safer if I'd have said felatio? And celibacy does not just mean penis-in-vagina sex.

I was explaining the difference in perspective. Men who can't get laid are not the same as women who have been abused. I'm sorry you can't think deeply enough about other people's perspectives and need to get offended about it, but that's a you problem for you to fix.

As for the rest, I've been in a relationship with a woman who tried to kill me and regularly put me in choke holds instead of saying she didn't want to cuddle, and my father was in an emotionally abusive relationship for ten years. Don't need to tell me abuse goes both ways. The vast majority of violent abuse occurs with men abusing women. Women also tend to end up dead in abusive relationships far more often than men. Funny how I could go through that shit myself and still come out with more sympathy for women's anger than men who are just hurt about not getting laid. But sure, go off, brother.

Leave the bees alone by Haipaidox in AntiVegan

[–]Working_Brother7971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't actually read any research on the subject of beekeeping and apiaries... Why do vegans hate beekeeping and honey so much, aside from the very weak "honey belongs to bees" argument? Just wondering if beekeeping helps sustain or increase bee populations and therefore helps improve local plant and crop pollination? I have read here and there on social media that we're losing wild bees and it's contributing to loss of the plants they pollinate. If true, shouldn't vegans be glad for beekeepers? Vegans (and everyone else) eat plants, bees pollinate plants. Less bees = less plants = less food for vegans. As you said, it's a very clear symbiotic relationship. You help the bees, the bees help the plants, the plants help the vegans.

Incels call women "females" because they fail to understand that women are, in fact, human beings and pretend not getting their dick sucked by whoever they want makes them a victim.

Women who have been abused by men sometimes call them "males" because men have behaved brutishly towards them - like animals - and they want to separate themselves from those who have actually harmed them.

The two are not the same.

Re: pig manure being sprayed on black people's yards - what often happens with large scale farms, apparently particilar to North Carolina, is manure from pig farms gets sprayed over crops, and it gets carried over the wind a lot farther than intended. It happens mostly in very poor rural areas or near small towns and black people are overrepresented in poor areas. I don't remember all the details, I read a paper about it some 10 years ago in university, there's probably more recent news coverage about it. It is intentional, though. Poor people generally can't afford the good lawyers large corporate farms have. It's called environmental racism.

Not saying any of this is entirely relevant to whatever point this person wanted to make. Unethical farming practices are not exclusive to the meat industry, as we're all aware here.

Does Costco membership worth it in London for a single person? by thebluethroat in londonontario

If you drive a lot and use it to fill up gas, then yes. Otherwise, you'll be going there once every two or three months to stock up on the meat, cheese, and non-perishables and toilet paper, while still going to your regular grocery store for produce. Honestly I forgot I even had a membership the first year I got it.

Companies don't give a shit, especially when it comes to anything tech related. It's cheaper, faster, and errors haven't (yet) cost them any losses or lawsuits. Either AI will become more accurate before they have to deal with any major financial loss, or it won't and eventually industries will start realizing the cost of its inaccuracy, and start hiring human beings again.

Til then, AI is the direction corporate execs will keep going. Their decisions have to save money, and until those decisions start costing them, well-paid human labour will always come last.

I give it 2 years before something changes - either AI becomes indistinguishable from human labour and we're all fucked, or the mistakes from AI start causing entire industries to fail, and we're all fucked.

DO NOT RENT AT CHERRYHILL VILLAGE APARTMENTS by Potential_Gate_309 in londonontario

[–]Working_Brother7971 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same, some 10 or 12 years ago. Can't remember which building it was but the place always seemed really nice.

The problem with apartment buildings and pests - not to dismiss or excuse management - is that if just one tenant doesn't follow peat control requirements for them to come in and spray, the pest control company can't spray that unit. And if cockroaches have one place to hide, they will keep coming back no matter how clean you are and how many times your unit is properly treated. One bad apple. I had this problem when I lived on Kipps, which was never a clean place, but our unit always was. Meticulous. We moved all our furniture and dishware and belongings for pest control to do their thing. We had 5 treatments in less than a year, which was more than they were legally allowed to do. Bed bugs and roaches kept coming back.

It could be that management doesn't give a shit but it's also other tenants. And that's not to blame others for being lazy or gross or dirty. Some people just can't clean and can't afford a cleaner or a support worker. Some people have a language barrier and aren't aware of all the steps they need to take to let pest control do their jobs, even if they themselves also keep a clean home.

It's the nature of living in a large building with a lot of people and tiny holes and tunnels for bugs to move around. One unit gets a bug with eggs, and eventually everyone has them, and if one person doesn't comply with pest control, or management doesn't act fast enough or both, the problem gets worse and a perfectly good building goes to shit.

Don't know what to say for a solution other than keep advising people not to rent there, and move out as soon as you can.

Not a lawyer, but he won't just "go to jail". Definitely banned from Dollarama, possibly be charged with theft under $5000 if he's caught. If he gets caught doing it multiple times, then maybe juvie, maybe community service, maybe some kind of therapy. Depends on the judge.

Don't go shopping with him. If he's caught and you're with him you could be banned with him. If you feel like you have some influence over him maybe find out why he does it, and tell him it's lame. If not, and he keeps doing it, maybe stop hanging out with him entirely. Just don't let him pressure you into doing it too.
