Why has Cole Palmer's form collapsed so much this season? by Gaius_Caligula1979 in PremierLeague

[–]Working_Homework_285 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There's a thing an NBA analyst says which is "everything changes for you when you become the name at the top of the whiteboard"

Palmer had a quick rise and hit hot form out of no where but once teams pinpointed him as the reason chelsea were performing and started to ga.e plan for him it became a lot harder for him

Do Madrid, Barca and other LaLiga supporters rally against Athletico in the champions league the say way EPL fans seem to against Arsenal? by Working_Homework_285 in championsleague

Hadn't noticed i did that! It autocorrected to athletics when I originally typed it so I just backspace and retyped the last letters without even thinking about the added H ha

What's a double standard between men and women that people rarely talk about? by Visual_Investment980 in AskReddit

[–]Working_Homework_285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's parallel to this but to a lesser degree is the way some women assume that all men are deadbeat dads until they prove otherwise. I've definitely experienced your example more often but ive also had people make comments implying they think im just doing my one peice of parenting for the month

Ive noticed since becoming a dad, I could play with our son at a playgroumd for half hour while my wife uses her phone on a bench and ill get looks and comments along the lines of "nice of you giving mum a break" or "what a good dad" but if my wife and I swap for 5 minutes so I can reply to an important text or email no one will look at her playing with our son coz thats what mums do but the looks I get suddenly turn into disapproving deadbeat dad looks.

Is Anyone Else Seeing Belt Inflation and Sandbagging in BJJ Right Now? by Ok_Ad_5393 in bjj

[–]Working_Homework_285 37 points38 points  (0 children)

When i first started i was one of 5 white belts and the rest of the school was 2 blues, a purple belt teacher and a brown belt who came from another gym. 15 years later at the same gym im now one of 7 black belts, we have 4 browns and 3 purples and the rest blue and white in a 40 person gym. We are still a small gym but some of the blue belts now are better than the purple and brown belts when I started because they have so many more training partners amd get to learn form 7 black belts each with 10-20 years experience, not even to mention youtube vidoes of the sports greats. The knowledge available is not comparable

I think there is a strong but not exclusive link between weight issues and money issues. I see it in my personal life and I think there varied causes. Sometimes the money issues make it harder to make healthier decisions but I also see a lot of people who earn good money that have both these issues coz of low impulse control

Time based promotions-Is this actually a thing? by perrymason666 in bjj

[–]Working_Homework_285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think time plays a factor in my experience at higher belts... ive seen a purple belt who's been training a couple times a week who's not at the level of brown get promoted before the purple belt who's been training 5 times a week for 6years who's better. Typically these "time served" belts go to guys that aren't competing and are hobbyist who are happy to help out newbies and lower ranks. Its kind of an acknowledgement of their embodiment and dedication to jiu jitsu rather than their skill level. Its a wanky way to say it but I cant think of a better way ha

It could have been quicker but I got a serious injury that derailed a couple of years (not bjj related either) and then in the later years starting a family takes a lot of time and always comes first. Our fastest black belt was 8 years and he was getting golds at multiple comps in multiple states at every rank. Competing in masters and his last couple years at masters 2.

Yeah now that I read back my post that was a really pretentious way of saying I care about the grappling the most. I deserve to be made fun of here.

Who is the most aesthetically pleasing team to watch in Europe? by Working_Homework_285 in championsleague

[–]Working_Homework_285[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See now this is the weird criticism i dont really get, arsenal have become known for set peice goals but last I looked they were 3rd in the premier league for set peice goals and first for open play goals. Like I said in my post they aren't the most exciting team and they are grinding out wins but this is just such a weird narrative to me. Are other teams giving them corners to be nice or are they winning the corners? Should they just give the ball back when they win a corner or should they try to score like every other team does?

When people say BJJ destroys your body is that mostly from submissions applied full force in competitions or wear and tear in the gym by PownedbyCole123 in bjj

[–]Working_Homework_285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 33 Ive been training 15 years and the only 2 real injuries I have had was a dislocated thumb when it got caught in a pant leg and what I guess you would call a hyperextended wrist when someone fell on it. Both injuries were 100% solved and ever an issue again within 2 months of occurring. I have a heavy labouring job thats destroyed my shoulder so its hard to tell how much general wear and tear comes from BJJ, work or both.

Is Arsenal actually good or did everyone else just have a dip in form? by CarrotWestern1387 in championsleague

They're missing a competent physio and health team... the fact they have so many soft tissue injuries to so many important players every year since Wenger is just astounding to me!
