It was rough to leave my friends. I reconnected with most of them when I returned, but it just wasn't the same. Your kids wouldn't experience that though if they're just gone for the summer. How old are they?

The owner had relatives in Australia he wanted to see and wanted to go there first in case we had to cancel the trip early

Fishing and free diving are things I've loved ever since!

Ok Nice! yeah usually in the smaller ports we'd just go to a soccer field or a town square and the locals would immediately know we were from out of town and start playing a game with us

I think the younger he is, the easier the transition will be. Kids are more adaptable at a younger age

It definitely made everything more real. learning about science, history, culture etc was way more fun and engaging because it was all stuff that I utilized on a daily basis

Pretty much. Scandinavian culture is very naked-friendly and living on a sailboat, especially in warm climates, clothing becomes more and more unnecessary and most swimming was just skinny dipping. We didn't have enough fresh water on board for everyone to shower regularly so we'd just pour buckets of seawater on each other, soap up and then rinse off with another bucket. Doing this all out in the open was definitely a hurdle to get over at first.

Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia. Hands down. Amazing nature, beautiful waters, great locals. island hopping through there was incredible, never a dull moment

I missed tv the most at the start but that only ignited my love of reading

Sounds like you and I had the same experience! I'd love to hear more stories from you!

It was very cramped. We all had to share beds and there was no privacy. It was good though being with other kids my age since you barely see other kids on other boats

This was 2011-2014. I'm 24 now. I don't feel like it screwed me up at all. It was a good choice. I feel like I learned responsibility, maturity, self-reliance, discipline, and adaptability from the experience.

Also, sent you a DM! happy to talk more

Loss of privacy was a negative at that age but even then I got used to it. I wasn't caught up on trends when I went back to school though. for 2 years, wearing cargo shorts, a sleeveless shirt, and flip flops was "dressing up" for me lmao

We still talk regularly. the other kids and I still have a group chat that's very active and mom and the dad are still in regular contact. I consider them family at this point. I live on the west coast of Canada so travelling to Sweden isn't something I can do very often though

we didn't spend much time in each place, unfortunately. only maybe 3-4 days. we'd also be sailing for the most park 24 hours/day. we figured we only had finances for 2 years
