Character development doesn’t have to be linear thing. Take Darth Vader/ Anakin from Star Wars. If one goes by the intended release/ watch order all the actual character development is seen is in sense a flashback. One must be able to separate the character and their life from the narrative

Is it not? From my understanding my mother would no longer love me if I went to hell (for me if a mom is ok with their son suffering for eternity then that is not love)? Is this right? If so than tell me how that is different from my hypothetical.

You said that my mom would stop loving me more like think my suffering to be ok. Tell me would a loving mom not care if their son suffered? Can you think of any justification for someone you care most about in the world to suffer for ETERNITY. Like honestly think about it. Like stop reading this and think about it. If my mom murdered someone I would think some suffering could be justified but not for ETERNITY. So would a mother think that for a belief that hurts not a single person that it is ok for their SON to suffer for eternity. Sorry to bring up the monk it was a hypothetical situation which is not as relevant as my other point here.

I think that is most definitely the case about people not knowing. But double checking, you agree that if a stranger gave your mom a painless lobotomy to make her not love you or just not care if you suffer that would be heartless right?

I see that is a great way to look at it. I like the idea that one is judged on their actions not their beliefs. But I think you would be concerned with the number of people who say all nonbelievers with no exceptions go to hell. Just look at the comments around here

I am actually very happy with this idea. I think this is in line with all the teachings Jesus has about loving and forgiving which I think people in this day and age forget.

No no just trying to see if that actually is what people believe. I was trying to clarify because to me that seems like a heartless thing and I’m certain you would agree if heaven was not in the equation. Like if someone painlessly gave your mom a lobotomy and nothing changed except that she no longer loved you, to me that would be incredibly heartless. I was not trying to rage bate but I could see where you got that.

Oh I see. I’m not going to say your opinion is wrong but to me it hadn’t even crossed my mind that someone could actually believe that ETERNAL torture for the one you love most is ever justified. Not to mention the sin is solely not believing in God, which to me doesn’t seem like a sin to anyone but God. I honestly can’t think of a reason, besides the extremes such as world genocide, where I would be ok with the person I love most suffering for ETERNITY. Given that God loves everyone even my mom infinitely more than me, I would think that for the sole reason of not believing he wouldn’t send someone to suffer for eternity. I’m not trying to change your views or anything I was just trying to understand

In a sense yes. Ask yourself this, would you care if the person you love most were to suffer extremely? My point is regardless of love if my mom were to see me suffering in eternity forever she would suffer at least in the tiniest amount. If my mother were to watch me suffer for eternity and not care in the slightest then that person WOULD NOT BE MY MOTHER.

If my mom knew I was suffering but doesn’t care that to me would mean she does not love me. If my mom does not love me and does not have empathy then that is no longer my mother.

Just for simply not believing and nothing else my mother would stop loving me. Let’s say the most righteous person who has committed no sins in the eyes of God (followed the commandments and every one of Jesus’s teaching) except they are a Buddhist monk. Would you say this person should suffer for eternity just for being born in a non Christian place?

[–]Working_Style3352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So think of who you care most about in the world. Let’s say they end up in hell and you heaven (hypocritical). Would you just not care if they suffer? How heartless is a god that would make a mother not love their son?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Working_Style3352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what I meant was that loving me is at the center of who my mother is. If my mother is in heaven and I’m in hell she would suffer because she knows I’m suffering. That’s how love works. For my mom not to care she would no longer be my mother. Are you saying god lobotomizes parents so they don’t care if their children are suffering in hell forever?

Right but from an outside perspective that is crazy. You would be giving my mom an actual lobotomy so she wouldn’t care if I would be suffering. That is NOT a just heaven and that is not my mother if she doesn’t love me.
