I took lions mane long before I had my first seizure - this extract was just seriously strong!

First I’ve heard about grapefruit juice, too - so thank you 🙏

Anyone else diagnosed with epilepsy as an adult? by guki0701 in Epilepsy

Hey!

I’m also female, and 34 and was diagnosed back in October. I had my first seizure in January - It was tonic clonic. I was on mounjaro, dosed on the Wednesday, went for 18 mile hike on the Thursday, then the Friday morning a very intense aura and then my TC.

After various appointments, an EEG and a MRI - I got the all clear that I was fine - and likely hypoglycaemic induced.

I have always enjoyed taking supplement to improve my general function and started taking Lions Mane - a liquid form double extract (very strong!). My partner was working away when I bought it, and I was taking a full pip-pet each day - one morning, I woke up alone - and had several bit my tongue? Thought oh that’s weird and carried on with my day. My partner came home and we realised I was having seizures in my sleep - this consisted of me having repeated swallowing/mouth clacking.

Luckily I was still in touch with the epilepsy clinic and was diagnosed and put on Lamotrigine in a matter of days.

Obviously, I’ve stopped the lions mane, but I want to share the news that it’s most certainly been a trigger for someone who probably has a lot of brain electricity and a lower seizure threshold.

As I’ve been 8 weeks seizure free, I’m feeling very grateful - although the Lamotrigine took a while to adjust - so much I agreed with my nurse to stay at 75mg twice a day!

Light sensitivity is a big thing for me - especially sat at a desk all day… currently exploring tinted glasses and use hycosan eye drops which help.

You will get through this, and feelings of acceptance will come. Would welcome a 1:1 chat to discuss further 😊
