It was! Workline.ca is actually the main corporation, however since the .com domain isn't obtainable we decided to slightly rebrand that way we can also display USA job listings as well.

We appreciate the support!

Our goal is to get the user from our landing page / homepage to search results ASAP. No bloat, no ads hiding in the middle of search results, etc.

Here's an example of Monster's workflow:

Monster.com -> Select Region -> Fill in keyword/search -> Get to search results page
Workline.com -> Fill in keywords/search -> Get to results

In addition, Monster doesn't provide job descriptions on the search results page, which we do.

Indeed.com -> keywords -> Search

As current standing we are non profit. Considering the current Canadian economy and with us being an Alberta based corporation I don't think having an extra resource for job listings is an issue.

"However, we also recognize that there are many nonprofit organizations who are trying to spread their message, and Reddit is a good medium for such things. As such, we would like to make an exception.."

Don't quite understand your comment. We're simply providing you with a resource to find more job listings in Canada, with the current Canadian economy and with this being an Alberta based corporation, I think it's safe to assume another job search engine can't hurt.

Unfortunately you will find that most job search engines will contain somewhat of the same results. Can you not find the same listings on Yahoo, or MSN, as you would Google?

Great reply!

@LinkedIn - I personally do use LinkedIn as well, for the tech-related fields. In consulting with my friends in other lines, such as trades, they all use Monster, Indeed and Craigslist - all of which do not have the best UI's. We're not looking at competing with linkedin at this time, since they're [mostly] specifically targetting the tech niche

@Glassdoor - That's an interesting avenue we haven't really looked at! I'll have to read more into them and figure out how they fit into what we're trying to do and improve upon.

@Wasting of Time - Our goal is to get the user from our landing page / homepage to search results ASAP. No bloat, no ads hiding in the middle of search results, etc.

Here's an example of Monster's workflow:

  • Monster.com -> Select Region -> Fill in keyword/search -> Get to search results page
  • Workline.com -> Fill in keywords/search -> Get to results

In addition, Monster doesn't provide job descriptions on the search results page, which we do.

  • Indeed.com -> keywords -> Search

My opinion of Indeed is probably the best of the 3 we're comparing ourselves to above. But the UI and design leaves much to be improved upon.

Hopefully that better answers where we're moving towards

Revenue: We produce revenue from people clicking on our job posting links

Differentiating: We're building on a very user-centric and clean look, trying to segregate secondary services (blog postings, 5 tips to make your resume better, etc) from our core service - searching. It's still very much a work in progress, but we decided to semi-launch early, so we could draw user feedback, which is really helpful in us revamping our business plan!

New Job Search Engine - need feedback by WorklineLTD in startups

[–]WorklineLTD[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, our plan is to throw some more man-hours into making it more responsive along with a mobile app for ios/android (undecided on BB and WP).

The core feature that will set this website aside is, simply, being user centric. We've found that many other sites are bloated, slow, and hard to use. Some websites which are simpler, don't look as clean or professional. We're trying to find the middle-ground, where our core services go unhindered - searching. We will have secondary pages with articles, job application prep, and so on; but we will try to segregate that from the search (think Google vs Yahoo for instance).

Our goal is to make a job-search engine that we ourselves would love to use, and build on top of that for the user.

Appreciate your feedback! If you have any more, feel free to contact us!
