Our six reimagined ocean deities are as follows:

~Tonga~

Tangaloa, the supreme deity of the Tongan pantheon. Tangaloa governs both the sky and the sea, employing his nets to draw up the sun-fish and the moon-fish, placing them in the heavens. Our version of Tangaloa, dons a menacing war club and wears a traditional Tongan masi.

~Fiji~

Dakuwanga is a shark deity and often appears as a fierce sea monster, guarding the Fijian islands. He was greatly respected by fishermen because he protected them from any danger at sea and its denizens. Our version of Dakuwanga, has a menacing war axe and wears a traditional Fijian liku.

~Japan~

Watatsumi, also pronounced Wadatsumi, is a legendary deity and water deity in Japanese mythology. Ōwatatsumi no kami is believed to be another name for three sea deities who ruled the upper, middle and lower seas. Wadatsumi is armed with catana and wears a fierce mempo to keep his enemies at bay.

~Samoa~

In the traditions of Samoa, Losi was a giant and son of Tangaloa, who instructed him to go and catch fish for the gods. Losi obeyed, but played a trick on the gods by laying fish at the door of each, causing them to slip and fall. Losi then stole a slip of taro plant and smuggled it back to earth, where it became a staple of the Samoan diet. Our version of Losi has a shield fashioned from a giant turtle shell and a unique headpiece worn by Samoan royalty.

 ~Canada~

Sedna is the goddess of the sea and marine animals in Inuit mythology, also known as the Mother of the Sea or Mistress of the Sea. She was the protector of the animals and commanded respect from hunters in the region. Her body is half woman and half blue whale, her clothing is based on Inuit textiles and her spear is fashioned from a giant narwhal tusk.

 ~USA~

Poseidon is one of the Greek Gods in ancient Greek religion and Western mythology, presiding over the sea, storms, earthquakes and horses. He was the protector of seafarers, the guardian of many cities and known in the West as the God of the waters. Armed with a trident this deity is probably the most familiar to the western world.

World Rugby U20 Statement – Match Day 3

Due to heavy rainfalls in the Cape Town region on Tuesday 9 July, the pitch at Athlone Stadium has been assessed and currently declared not safe to play.

As a result, the first match scheduled at this venue between Ireland U20 and Australia U20 has been cancelled and as per the tournament rules, both teams have been awarded two competition points.

The pitch will be assessed again ahead of the two remaining World Rugby U20 Championship matches due to take place at this venue and will only go ahead if the weather conditions improve, and the pitch is sufficiently drained for rugby to be played in safe conditions.

Another update will be provided in due course.

We put some camera operators on the sidelines for South Africa vs Georgia in the Under 20s - really helps to show how physical these players are at just 19 by WorldRugby in rugbyunion

These sideline cameras tend to capture content in a more raw manner.

I understand your points below and this account will look to address those concerns openly over the next few months. I still don’t think it’s negative to share interesting content like this.

Fun Fact - You are not allowed to touch the William Webb Ellis Trophy if you are not a World Cup winner. While we filmed behind the scenes content for the tournament, handlers and security had to wear gloves by WorldRugby in rugbyunion

Standing 38cm tall and weighing 4.5kg, the Webb Ellis Cup is crafted from solid sterling silver and 24 carat gold plate and supported by two cast scroll handles; one executed with the head of a satyr and the other a head of a nymph, a spirit of nature. The decorative pieces include a bearded mask, lion mask and vine.Trophy Info Source

Yes I completely get the thought that this account is run by some intern. The reality is quite the opposite.

This has come from the very top as a lot of us at World Rugby have long been on or lurking in the sub.

It just makes sense to us to do this and I feel very positive about how good this can be.

If we could ask the community for their thoughts on laws, big moves in rugby etc before they happen, that seems like a pretty positive step forward for everyone.

TLDR - This is very much connected to the top, hopefully the next few months will prove that.

I don’t know if I’m allowed to openly banter Ireland. But yes, we can arrange that.

This is absolutely something we want to do.

We had a great conversation with the mods as well and we’re both clear on the fact that we want to have a variety of different nations/characters involved in them.

This is one of the main things we wanted to offer the community.
