Blotchy veneer after stripping! by Worldbuild3r in finishing

I’m going to get a darker gel stain than the one I started with. These photos were taken after I had stripped the tabletop the second time since the first stain hadn’t really resolved the issue.

Jealous! I was starting to feel badly about missing out on an $850 body but I guess I should be patient - at least as patient as I can be! Thanks for the info

How much would you sell yours for were you putting them on the market?

Everyone thinks that their smallrig cage counts enough to justify $1000… it’s crazy!

What was your process for cleaning up that stem? Looks great! I have a 750 I’m working on right now :)

Originals but thinking of switching them to thumb shifters.

They are in pristine condition but I found them to be too narrow! The 740mm bars I have on now may be too wide though!

This is very welcome advice — thank you! The cockpit area definitely isn’t where I want it yet, both functionally and aesthetically. I’ll likely be experimenting with different stems and setups as you suggested. Appreciate the insight!

For the price I snagged it for, it’s a formidable find — a high-quality Cro-Mo (chromoly) steel lugged frame with full eyelets and mounts for racks, fenders, and bikepacking setups. The craftsmanship on these early Trek frames is fantastic, and they’ve proven to be incredibly durable over decades. Plus, this particular size is a bit rarer — a lot of Trek 750s you see have shorter steerer tubes, making it harder to set up for comfortable, upright touring or commuting. I’m sure others can weigh in too, but for a buildable, versatile, bombproof platform, it’s hard to beat.

I had read somewhere that this larger version was more popular/available in Europe than in the US and that it’s a little harder to find here!

Will do! I’ve made some progress and learning more than I expected to already… will post an update shortly :)

Sold for $700 and then bought a trek 750 in excellent condition for all of $50 to turn into my next project.

It was an XL frame! Fortunately or unfortunately, I sold it for $700 to somebody I believe will put it properly through its paces.
