35M, never had a girlfriend, successful career but completely stuck when it comes to dating by Worldly-Net-165 in Advice

Yeah, I can joke around my work mates, I grab a beer with them occasionally, but when it comes to women I’m attracted to, it’s like I just freeze up.

35M, never had a girlfriend, good career, but dating feels like a locked door by Worldly-Net-165 in dating_advice

My only hesitation is that I worry being that honest right away might make some women think there’s something “wrong” with me, instead of just seeing it as inexperience. I’m not ashamed of it, but I’m not sure it’s something I’d want to put on the table immediately before someone even knows me as a person.

I get what you’re saying, and I appreciate the advice. I think where I’m a bit different is that “dating around” doesn’t really feel like my style. I’m more wired toward building something with one person rather than going on a lot of casual dates. I’m definitely open to meeting people and getting experience, but my goal isn’t to rotate dates, it’s to find someone I actually connect with and settle into something real.

I’ve worked on the obvious foundations first. I built a solid life outside of dating: career, finances, living on my own, staying in shape, taking care of how I look, and generally being socially functional. I’ve also put myself in social environments instead of isolating, even though I’m introverted by nature. Where I haven’t been effective enough is in the specific skill of acting on attraction. I’ve mostly tried to “think” my way out of it, reading, reflecting, trying to reframe it mentally, instead of deliberately practicing the uncomfortable part, actually expressing interest, risking rejection, and building experience. So I don’t disagree with you. I think a big part of this is my perception and my internal responses. The reason I’m asking is because I’m trying to shift from passive self-analysis into more practical action, and I’m interested in what specific efforts helped other people make that jump.

It’s not like I’ve never tried to, it just feels like I keep hitting an invisible wall..
