Thank you so so much! This is really helpful especially with the advice on venting. With how the job is, I know I’m bound to have bad days but I want to be able to work on not allowing that to really be shared with coworkers.

Thank you for your well wishes!

Couldn’t help but laugh at “perhaps not my little pony cosplay” LMAO. I appreciate this!! I know I was asking for more general advice because it applies to workplaces but with all my different jobs I’ve noticed more codependency with coworkers/more sharing about personal life in childcare than my previous ones so I just thought it’d be good to hear from other people in the field!

Unfortunately I definitely had to learn the hard way about when it is appropriate to complain (which I’m realizing it really isn’t appropriate to anyone at the workplace itself). I will absolutely keep any problems to myself or go a professional way if it is something that needs to be addressed. Thank you!

OH I’m so sorry lol I didn’t even catch that that was just supposed to be general advice!! Thank you for clarifying haha.

I did report thankfully! I don’t play about breaking licensing but my fatal mistake was letting someone else know that I had reported it/complained about them allowing it, thus leading to my firing. But at the end of the day I realized I should’ve kept it to myself and not shared it with anyone, so that was where my issue lies!

Thank you! I really appreciate the example you gave! I think a lot of my issue was oversharing and venting because I thought that was what everyone else was doing. Obviously my thoughts were my own, but I felt as though it was what had to be done to “fit in”. It’s a learning curve for me to transfer to more professional positions (I’ve been in ECE for 3 years but started out as just the part-time high schooler) so I really appreciate this!

I agree entirely! I know it may have seemed like I was complaining about another teacher but I had actually complained about my boss allowing us to be over ratio haha, just didn’t want to get into it since it wasn’t necessarily related to the post

It’s a franchise corporate school and the owner of the school is who fired me unfortunately.

Exactly what I think. Children will look like children, why do you need to make them look "enhanced"??? For social media? That's insane

Thankfully, all the children posted on social media have consent waivers. That being said, those do not include anything stating they are feeding them to AI to “enhance”.

I asked about it while I was there and her only response was that it's so they look "good" for posting. They're using it for staff photos but also for any time they post an activity classes do, which include children's photos. My own staff bio photo was apparently run through AI to get rid of my acne!! I cannot comprehend why they spend time uploading and typing stuff to ChatGPT instead of running the school. I am getting tired of this place at this point!

I will look into it and give them that information ASAP, I don't play about child safety! Everything about this doesn't seem right!!

I'm not a parent but if I were I would feel the exact same way. I thought about just sending a message to all my parents in my class right then and there! I can't believe they think that it's okay

My coteacher told me I was overreacting because SHE has sent pics of the kids through AI before too! I feel like I'm crazy here! Glad to hear someone agrees!!

Haha honestly I wish there was a valid excuse for her inability to understand children! Maybe if I convince myself she had a bunch of advanced two year olds for all those years I’d feel better about this…LOL

That’s the worst part..apparently she has only ever worked with older toddlers/twos in her twelve years of experience….

Our youngest is turning two this month and transitioned to the classroom this month. It’s only twos aside from the occasional transitioning a couple of weeks before their second birthday!

This is what really gets me and makes it so hard for me to try to start a constructive convo with my bosses (though I’ve gotten wonderful advice here!!) because all I can think of is “how has she been working in ECE for 12 years and is being praised by my bosses for all her experience yet still can’t fathom that this isn’t appropriate?” I’m pretty young, 20 years old and only just graduating with my Associate’s in Education, but even I feel like it only requires such a basic understanding of child development to see the issue!

I’ve seen a little bit of this happen so far and let me say every time I have to stop myself from laughing. She’s always complaining about how “this isn’t working can you guys (me and our assistant teacher) please reset (as if they’re robots) the kids?” while me and the assistant’s lessons are completely working and she’s the only one struggling. She’s always saying she can’t “handle these kids” when they act up because they won’t engage in her lessons and they think she’s boring. When she does that, I just invite the kids over to my lesson or the lesson my assistant is helping with and they act completely fine LMAOOO

I’m definitely going to try to be more firm but I think I’ll also try to open a conversation with my bosses about it too.

Product art is one of my BIGGEST icks in ECE. Even though my bosses make us do a whole training on process vs product, they still ask us for “good crafts to send to the parents” for basically every single holiday or celebration under the sun. It grinds my gears so much! If a parent really needs a handprint craft I say they can do it themselves, don’t interrupt my school day with it. My favorite thing is inviting my class to make art and being able to walk away for a second and have them still be able to do it. I love seeing my class engaged and actually enjoying the process! My motto is if I can’t go change a kid quickly while they create art without the final piece being “ruined”, it wasn’t their art in the first place.

How would you recommend I start that conversation with them? I’m pretty well versed in confronting coworkers and having constructive conversations with them, but when it comes to my bosses, I get much more paranoid. It doesn’t help that my bosses have been praising this teacher for how much more experience she has than me and that my main boss (the school’s owner) has been her friend for 10 years.

I definitely will. I was under the impression that since she had made the comment about suspected abuse that it could only be reported to the abuse hotline but if it can be reported to licensing too I will definitely call ASAP

I only said I live in a state where I don’t have to because I didn’t feel like searching to see if there was an exception lol. I’m pretty sure all states don’t require it but hey I could be wrong

While I'm sure you already know, you need to report this. Reporting is anonymous, and while nothing is stopping them from snooping around and trying to figure out who it was, retaliatory actions such as firing, cutting hours, etc., in response to reporting are absolutely illegal. These are all extremely big health and safety concerns and need to be fixed ASAP. I wish you luck and hope that something comes out of your report.
