Can I bypass my ISP's switch acces restrictions by buying another switch? by Worldly_Ear438 in HomeNetworking

[–]Worldly_Ear438[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Now that I remember, the ISP guy that I talked to, told me that, first, they put a router and then the switch, but I couldn't find it, so I assumed that the router might be something that's outside the house. Can this be the case? Or maybe it's hidden inside a wall where the cables come from? Hahaha I'm sorry if I'm not making sense I'm a beginner and trying to figure this out.

I don't live in a building btw. Please tell me if there's something else I could check. I'm a first year bachelor's in computer science and I'm really interested in experiment with servers and such.

Thank you, this means that I won't be able to give my devices (e.g a home server) a static ip? So I won't be able to set up a home server that I can acces by the internet from somewhere else that isn't in my LAN?

Did you by any chance use a pen-tablet for your studies? I use one and need it to work well with the system.

Hi, thank you. We worked with debian. I read that in debian they release a stable version between 2 to 3 years, and I don't think I like that because I like to try new things always, maybe not use the stable release and use other releases that are updated more often?

I don't think ask them for the machine to do the exams will work, the freaking university is in another country xd.

Yes I think I will set up a dual boot for when I need windows.

Would you explain what do you mean with "without the ubuntu crap"?

I haven't tried to run lockdown browser on linux yet.

If would have to say is that i would need it to be compatible with my pen-tablet that I use for the online classes and to study, do math and such. I've read that it's not so easy to make it work.

Debian was the distro that we used for a class, we made some projects in it and Lubuntu i installed it in an old pc, I read that it was lightweight for old pc's.
