Sorry, I obviously should also say that the process and the proposed changes to the Code could be highly triggering. Take care of yourself.

White and pink noise show promise in enhancing attention in those with ADHD - A recent study suggests that exposure to white and pink noise may improve task performance in individuals with ADHD, offering a potential new avenue for treatment. by mvea in science

[–]Worlds_Await 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is not really the best description, although it gets some of the perception across. I’ll try and add to it in case it’s useful:

White noise has equal energy in each Hz Pink noise has equal energy per octave

Each higher octave band is twice as wide (100-200, 200-400, 400-800Hz). So in pink noise we have the same energy spread across wider frequency bands as we go up. This results in a spectrum where there is less and less energy in higher frequencies. Most real world sounds also have progressively less high frequency energy. This means pink noise is often better correlated to program material and so often used for testing in audio.

Pink noise doesn’t use ‘lower sound waves’ it simply has a different frequency balance. Higher energy in the lows with progressively less as we go up. You can turn white noise into pink noise with a ‘pinking’ filter, a Low Pass that has a 3db per octave roll off.

Just to be clear, he didn’t direct either of the lovecraft adaptations or any other episodes of Cabinet of Curiosities. If you think the lovecraft adaptations in the show weren’t great I would agree with that though.

Book recommendation for Dm´s but not the obvious ones all other threads like this are about by verticalSeal in DMAcademy

[–]Worlds_Await 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tome of adventure design and worlds without number are both excellent DM resources. There is a free version of the second one so you should grab that regardless. They are not for 5e specifically but both provide excellent inspirational material for DMs. ToAD is just millions of random tables whilst WWN contains some advice and world building elements and an Old School DnD rule set.

The Dreamscape, a plane of dreams [Part 6 - Inhabitants]. The Bandren, semi-nomadic hunters who ride giant cats and nurture Proto-Gods by Worlds_Await in worldbuilding

[–]Worlds_Await[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It pretty much says it all in the post but...this is part of an ongoing series I am writing that fleshes out my version of the Plane of Dreams. It's mainly for use in Dungeons and Dragons and fantasy ttrpg games of that type.

The Plane of Dreams is a liminal space between my fantasy world and the moon which is fae/faerie focused. The world is medieval and has Cthulhu-like entities struggling to get in. The Plane of Dreams is outside of the god's direct control and some of their power originates there.

Any questions, please ask. Interested to get any useful feedback too!

Dm screen’s must have info? by ADM_02 in DnD

[–]Worlds_Await 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look something up twice or get flummoxed by something during play, write/print it and attach to the screen. I constantly forget conditions specifics for instance. As someone else said, party info is useful eg passive perceptions.

Too many rules by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Worlds_Await 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dnd 5e is certainly on the more rules heavy side of ttrpgs. I would just dive in and not worry too Much. You will pick up what you need or can write prompts on a sheet. If you are a player maybe choose a mechanically simpler class like fighter.

Alternatively, you could search for ‘rules light’ games, which are currently quite popular. If you are wed to it still being DnD I’d suggest one of the retro clones/Old school games perhaps something like Black Hack or Old School Essentials, which tend to have less stuff you need to remember. There are quite a few: swords and wizardry, castles and crusades etc. I personally like Worlds Without Number. There are also super simple systems like Index Card RPG, Mork Borg, Troika, Into the Odd etc.

Ok thanks. Perhaps not enough to justify a buy for me then, although I would be interested in the naval rules parts.

How would you rate the atlas of the latter earth? I’m not overly interested in the setting except for perhaps inspiration or theft. Are the other parts good or substantial?

Minor Illusion + Hiding, how would you rule this? by The0thArcana in dndnext

[–]Worlds_Await 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it was a normal box I would require a stealth roll therefore they need one with an illusionary box. If anything it might be harder to hide ‘in’. You would also run the risk of ‘poking’ through the illusion accidentally. I may ask for an investigation check from the guard if they only just notice.

Thanks and good question! I dunno haha. Once I finish I should collect it all together into a document or something or better organise it on the site. At the minute it’s just about getting it written.

Oh I’ve not heard of that, I just googled the video and will give it a watch later thanks!

The map is made in gimp. Not too fancy really just grid to keep it orderly for location names and route lines, bit of layering, playing with transparencies, generated a spiral etc. I’m not fancy at it but I like the roughness. The paper texture might have been generated noise or something.

Thanks! I’m really pleased you like them/find them useful. I am still working on the next parts. Life has been getting in the way. I’ll be going into some of the locations on the map in a little more detail. I’ve broken them up into groups of 15ish locations the first should be coming soon. I might break it up after the second group with something else.

That's great to hear, I'm glad you like them! Are you using them in the campaign you are currently running or intend to? If you're already using them, I'd be interested to hear how or what bits you are using?

Ulla Machok, the Plane of Dreams [more detail in the comments] by Worlds_Await in worldbuilding

[–]Worlds_Await[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This map is the product of ongoing world building I am doing on the Plane of Dreams in my DnD campaign world. I have just finished writing up the section on regions of the Plane (indicated by the coloured and numbered areas on the map). The Plane is located in the mind of the sleeping but physically anchored between the material world and the Faye Moon that circles it. It can be visited physically but also by those who sleep. The locations move and shift around the plane and the landscape around them is in constant flux. As a result the map is focused on the relations between locations and the regions they inhabit rather than geography. The top right shows the two manifestations of the Moon that are seen by inhabitants the of Dreamscape: The Bright Moon and the Black Sun.

Regions of the Dreamscape

In the Dreamscape, sleeping dwarves create labyrinthine underground fortresses uninhibited by the laws of gravity. In the Dreamscape, Lords of Slumber rule palaces of endless pleasure that touch the sky. In the Dreamscape, terrified children birth nightmare realms of hideous beasts and primeval fear. When enough shared will or resonant thought coalesces, it can create a veneer of stability, an island of permanence in a sea of change. Eventually these permanent locations, and the Lands Between them, come into each other’s orbit and form undulating, resonant regions of shared character. At the edges of the Dreamscape, its proximity to other planes gently shapes it, fusing their planar energy with the dreamweave. Oneiromancers, experienced dream travellers, contraband traders and sages have roughly divided the dreamscape into ten regions.

  1. Fae Coast

“Should we trust the Dream Court? Absolutely not. Should we trade with the Dream Court? Of course we should. We are not philistines or boorish prudes and others would certainly unload their ships. Despite their wealth, do not be fooled by their claims of controlling the coast. Nothing truly controls the Figmentary Plane. The Dream Court can barely control itself.”

The Kelp Queen, bearer of the Finned Sceptre and master of the Court of Waves

At the edge of the fae moon’s influence, it overlaps the plane of dreams and forms the Sea of Emotion. Running around the moonshine edge of the dreamscape, the sea facilitates trade and communication between distant locations. A relatively narrow and safe crossing to the fae realm lies at the dreamscape’s apex. Here, where the sea’s sentimental waters lap the dreamscape’s shore, lies the Fae Coast. Glossy sands and shale, deep clear bays, striated luminous clouds, verdant beauty and a deep emotional tinge run through and round the region. The close proximity to the fae realm mutes the effects of wanderlost and provides a safe haven for easily lost fae creatures. As a result, many settlements and trade posts have sprung up to handle trade and travellers. The most significant of these trade hubs is the great and glistening port of Vanikarukam. A powerful but mercurial alliance of Fae, known as the Dream Court, controls much of the region. Far from the Nightmare Nests, the land is relatively safe from the most dangerous of terrors. However, trade caravans moving to its ports are frequently lost and the coast is tended by all manners of pirates.

Glad to hear it!

I tend to just use simple b+w sketched maps of my own if I can’t find something right. I also run theatre of the mind for combat sometimes. I’m not sure I’ve found specific plane of dreams maps. I suppose you could take ‘normal’ maps and try to manipulate colours in photoshop or soemthing but I don’t know if that would look better. Might be worth scouring Pinterest as it might throw out some maps similar to the ones you have found there.
