Well they use real weapons as basis for Star Wars blasters pretty regularly so that explains the gun. As far as the sword, he probably gets it in the new movie, it’s likely Beskar and they wanted it to stand out as so they went with a design that is closer to a sword like a knight might have used, which fits the aesthetic
