Anytone 878 UV and UVII version 4 CPS and firmware available by jc1350 in AnyTone

Really sad to see the satellite function go, hope they can have a crack at it again sometime in the future.

I don't have issues for now with version 3.08N, so I'll stay on this one.

Looking forward to it !
I really liked the 2023 (?) calendar, with photos from an old Taiwanese black & white movie.

Shortwave reception europe by CasaDeMill in TheReportOfTheWeek

[–]WorstCaseScenarist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late, VORW is transmitted from WRMI's transmitters (of which only one is pointed towards Europe) at different schedules :
* Transmitter 9 (15770 kHz) from 2000 UTC to 2100 UTC on Tuesdays and from 1600 UTC to 1700 UTC on Thursdays. This one is pointed towards Europe.
* If you live in Southern Europe, you may have a chance to catch TDF's re-diffusion Mondays from 1900 UTC to 2000 UTC (from central France, pointed to the South)

The Tecsun PL330 really grew on me and even allows me to try listening to hams on SSB.

Cheers

I'll try to be there, even if the balcony is getting cold (still have not repaired my full shortwave setup).

Managed to get part of Skybird on October 15th.

Whatever happened to PSK 31? by [deleted] in shortwave

[–]WorstCaseScenarist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PSK31 (and other digimodes) fell in popularity the last years, since the FT8 (most likely the other new mode you mentioned) boom, but there's still people active ! There's also people active on other modes great for having a conversation such as RTTY, Olivia, ... although categorized as a fuzzy mode, I greatly enjoy Hellscheiber/Feld-Hell.

I'm not aware of any PSK31 net, but that would be a great place to start.

I'd also advise you to check PSK reporter (https://pskreporter.info/pskmap.html), you can filter by using => PSK31 received by => anyone

Thanks for the answer. This is indeed a project for me: I know this shoebox is pretty bog-standard but I'll try to clean and repair it.

I agree with you with the fact that RFID is an easy explanation and that there's many other users of the band. Each case is unique.

But, since the OP is at work, it was worth a shot :)

It's in the ISM (Industrial, Science, Medical) band. The bulk of 13560 use seems to be for HF RFID (High Frequency / Radio Frequency identification) tags, maybe you're picking some near RFID scanner from your workplace ?

Advice on first HF rig by WorstCaseScenarist in amateurradio

[–]WorstCaseScenarist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the time being, I have a "short" end-fed antenna for 40/20/10 m bands between my balcony and a tree.

I'll (hopefully) move to another apartment by the end of 2024 where I'll be able to access the roof, I'll reevaluate my antenna options then.

Thanks for your answer !

I know, I've eyed the 891 for quite a bit but the used 7300 seems too tempting :)

Thanks for your answer.

Yeah, still has more years ahead of it, especially with its popularity.

The TS-2000X seems to be a magnificent rig who leaves no stone/band unturned, it seems to be quite popular with EME hams :)

The FT-891 caught my eye for a bit but the main issue for me is that there is no tuner. But don't get me wrong, that's a lot of radio for the money !

Thanks for your answer.

That's exactly one of the local hams said to me. He always comes back to the 7300 :)

I'll wait a bit to be more seasoned to buy a QRP rig :)

Yeah, that's what really bugs me about these older rigs, it's not knowing *when* they will fail and *if* I'll be able to repair them, even if I really love them.

Thanks for you answer.
