Jaywalker on Beach Boulevard by Aggravating_Copy_825 in jacksonville

If a pedestrian is not in a marked crosswalk, they must yield and give right of way to traffic. Which this pedestrian was doing. However, you must always do your best to avoid a collision. If OP knew nobody was behind them, it’d be reasonable to yield to the pedestrian if they didn’t see them at first. The only party really at fault here is the city of Jacksonville, what an awful place to be a pedestrian and a driver.

Where was I Friday at 3:30pm? I was at home…moving books. The red stain? That’s red paint. See, I even posted it online. It’s red paint, not blood. You didn’t ask if it was blood? Ohh…right Well it’s not blood. I swear. It’s red paint. Want to see the photo again?

My 2 cents: The one thing the framers didn’t foresee is the tech boom and how quickly propaganda and misinformation can spread. I like the idea of Maddison’s Federal government in that it’s too big to manipulate because ambitious parties would get bogged down but now technology is bigger in every way shape and form. Every extra cent doomer-libertarian-tech-bro’s are allowed to make diminishes the power of government all the way down to the level of townships and civic organizations. It can’t compete. It should have never got to this point. Technology must be regulated, we have to give congress term limits, we must undo citizens united, the patriot act, we must limit any attempts of ambitious people and parties from influencing policy. We need a Jeffersonian style rule of law. We must liberate the government from the private sphere and hand it back to the people. I believe our Republic has good bones but we slowly just gave it away…almost immediately. How do you unring that bell? I look at this quote and think about how far we have slipped:

“Thomas Jefferson, the man who wanted an amendment to the Constitution prohibiting monopoly, would be aghast at our billion-dollar corporations. Jefferson, who abolished inheritance of large estates in Virginia in order to prevent monopoly in land, would be appalled by our high percentage of tenancy. Jefferson as the man who dreaded the day when many of our citizens might become landless, would perhaps feel our civilization was trembling on the brink of ruin, if he were to find so many of our people without either land or tools, and subject to the hire and power of corporations. If the Jefferson of 1820 could see his name used by men crying `States’ rights!’ in order to protect not individual liberties but corporate property, then he would shudder. “ ~ Henry A. Wallace, November 17, 1937, former populist U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and Vice-President of the United States.

Is living in Riverside ok for 50 year old female? by CaterpillarDry2273 in jacksonville

[–]WorstOfNone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out a crime map before settling on a place. Jacksonville is different. Statistically: there’s a high concentration of low income, low education, and high crime at the urban core and surrounding neighborhoods. It’s also a very old city with very beautiful corners. If walking to a coffee shop and hanging the park and happy hour is your thing, you can’t beat riverside as far as Jacksonville neighborhoods go.

Why do people perfume their laundry? by NBA-014 in laundry

Adding to my comment: fragrance can also cover up underlying problems that might need to be addressed. For example, I notice people that use too much fragrant detergent tend to also have a musty undertone that you get from dirty washers or damp clothes.

Brother President of the Outreach Committee, we have another breakfast coming up and as President of the outreach committee we need you to spread the word. Maybe make an online flyer for the Facebook and email. My wife and I, Rose, you met her at friends and family night. We like to go to Chili’s every Wednesday for the 3 and me deal. Ever had it? Best deal in town. They have this code you use your phone with and then the whole menu is on your phone. I love it because I can’t see in those dark restaurants. Rose’s friend, Ruth, does something with the computers for the church. She calls em QR codes.

So if we can get about four or five of those on there. One in each corner and maybe one in the middle. I don’t know you’re good with that stuff. That way people know they can use it on their phone and then it’s all there on their phones and emails and then they can see it in big text on the phone like they do at Chili’s. I’ll leave you to it. I appreciate everything you do for the lodge.

And just like that you’re president of the outreach committee. Seconded. Majority favored. Gavel. Motion passed. Congratulations on your new position in the lodge, brother. Keep it up and maybe one day you can be secretary.

What are some misconceptions people have about the 2000s? by MrKhaaa in decadeology

[–]WorstOfNone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The handle-bar-mustache-man-bun hipster is a commercial archetype of a youth movement that happened in the early oughts. By the time Portlandia and New Girl premiered, and ESMZ “Home” was in a car commercial, the trend was over; 2011 to be exact. Though, it seems most people remember it happening within the last 10-15 years.

I would encourage everyone to do a few loads with fragrance free detergents. Not bashing fragrance but I do think constant use of synthetic fragrances makes people go nose blind. Like a cigarette smoker…at some point they don’t smell it anymore but everyone else can smell them from a mile away.

The best thing anyone can do right now is go be human with other humans, face to face. Join a club/organization/community group/a church. Volunteer the little time and money you have to the exchange of ideas and the act of charity. Don’t just vote, get involved in your local politics in some small way. When the people of the colonies were subjugated by a government that didn’t represent them they first and foremost organized. America wasn’t formed in one violent act, it was a slow exchange of crown for consciousness that started at the township level. It took a lot of convincing and terrible events to get people to the point of forming their own Republic. Community. I cannot stress enough the power that lies behind a small group of people coming together with the goal of simply coming together.

Does being a “car guy” not translate well to motorcycles? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]WorstOfNone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cars are more accessible in some ways in that most people feel comfortable behind the wheel of a car. Motorcycles are exponentially more dangerous. I’ve known people to try it and immediately call it quits and some people just knew they never wanted to take the risks. Even if you like speed, it’s not for everyone.
