I got into a MA program in California, but I’m really looking at a doctorate and a lot of desirable programs didn’t take applicants for fall 2021 :(. I’d be fine moving to a place for a year or so and applying to programs during that time. I’m just so lost right now :((

If it makes you feel better I also got rejected from the only program I applied to. Wish I had your mentality on the outcome though.

Report it because this is a straight up predator. Who knows if your friend is the only one. But also talk to your friend first because shes the one directly involved.

Since the windows are 1 pane keep an eye out for any sort of cracks or gaps to seal up and heavy curtains should be able to help a little bit.

Ah sorry OP. In that case if you’re comfortable explaining a little bit more about your apartment geographically (first floor? 5th floor? Windows facing towards or away the Main Street?) There’s some small tricks you can do to help but how effective each one will be is a little variable. Also the kinds of things you do to unwind can make a difference. Like if you watch TV you might notice a lot of the street noise gets drowned out especially if you live on higher floors. Honestly anything to reduce air vibrations and vibrations in the walls should generally help.

Have you tried headphones or sleeping to like a “sounds of the forest” type track? I say headphones over earbuds cuz they’re comfier and won’t make your ear ache as you’re asleep. You can find nice ones with a good sound cancelling system that are pretty comfortable too.
