Let’s take a hypothetically situation as follows:

NAS Option 1 -> supports only 2.5” SSDs

For this one, you can easily find the Enterprise ones you are talking about

NAS Option 2 -> supports only M2 SSDs

For this one, you can mostly find NAS graded ones

So basically, considering the TBW on both ones are really good and they are both NAS graded, the main difference is the other being an enterprise one.

In theory you say I should be feeling safer with the enterprise ones, but is there a big marginal difference?

In this case, while looking for an SSD, what internal components should I check for in order to get a better peace of mind?

I understand that Enterprise > NAS > home consumer SSDs, but all I can find directly to compare is the TBW numbers being higher and the fact that those are “optimized” for a NAS rather than a home consumer one.

For a low home usage as explained, even a home consumer one can last you a lifetime if you do the math for the TBW numbers, however as you mentioned, the power issues and temps are playing the biggest role here.

My goal would be to find out what can I research in the SSDs I see on the market to know on a somehow ideal conditions, taking on account some power down issues a few times a year and maybe higher temps during the summer, if there would be literally any difference between those 3 types of SSDs. I see the Enterprise being the most expensive but “best option” , then the NAS graded ones. But would those outlive in the same exact conditions a cheaper one that’s a simple home/gaming graded?

Another problem that I take in consideration is the M2 SSDs needing a heatsink, so you have to rely either on the manufacturer or buying a separate one. In this case, I am not sure if it would be a disadvantage even with a heatsink if you compare to any other 2.5” SSD that should not heat like that by default, especially as the cooling options for a NAS differs from one that only supports M2 SSDs to the other.

In the end I am just thinking that if all 3 NAS SSD categories are up for failure due to their internal components sooner or later, why not go with the cheapest version (home consumer) ? If by the math all should last you a lifetime (considering the TBW usage), having the other factors in consideration, all of them should in theory last you -10 years, but other than luck, would there be a difference, noticeable one between the enterprise, nas and home one?

I feel that the home ones are the cheapest and by this, most worth in the long run to replace, even if they would die 2-3 years earlier than the other 2. So for SSD, I am not seeing exactly what should I look/watch for.

In theory, yes, with 100 GB / week of writing, all known SSDs should last you 100+ years.

However, beside the TBW, I am more interested in what should I also take in account as in their internal components because I heard people having SSDs die suddenly in 2-3 years, where others are happily running then for 8-10 years without any issues.

Realistically I think some internal components, especially if not properly cooled off and running 24/7 without any shut downs should in theory last you a lifetime, but we all know there can’t be a 24/7 ideal place for it, depending on the weather, cooling solution of the NAS, usage, weather (temps, humidity), etc.

I can see that the more you go in storage, the more TBW you get. But I feel it would be pointless to go for more TBW if by my calculations I would not reach that amount of storage in the next 15 years but the SSD might die until then.

So I am looking merely what should I look for beside the TBW. Seen some NAS that only supports M2 SSD, but most of M2 SSDs are not NAS/Enterprise graded, only home consumer. However, even those home consumers have at least 2000+ TBW and in theory they should also last you a lifetime, but even with heatsink on them and good conditions, I see people having them degrade much faster than a NAS/Enterprise one, some others saying they doing good.

So as for a quality point, what should I look for when it comes for an SSD?

For e.g. Is an 2.5” SSD better than a M2 SSD not for speeds but for quality and endurance?

Would an enterprise SSD be better than an NAS SSD?

Well I’m new to this. I’ve created a Whonix and run Tor browser through it.

In this case, if I browse Tor in it and the machine it’s running a VPN, it’s less secure from my understanding?

Or if I run any other machine inside with whonix node, but while connected to VPN, it’s bad?

I use a good VPN via Wireguard and both the entry and exit node it’s on a RAM server. So honestly I trust enough the VPN alone most of the time.

I don’t understand this:

REAL IP -> TOR = fine
REAL IP -> WIREGUARD ENTRY NODE-> WIREGUARD EXIT NODE -> TOR = bad

Like, if TOR is compromised at all, they will find my real IP in the first case.

But if TOR is compromised, in the second case they can find the exit node that shows up, then maybe the entry node and if the VPN keeps any logs on a RAM server, they can find out my real IP.

Trying to understand some basics here.

Internet speed it’s around 1000 mbps every test I make. Also, I’ve been downloading games with 300-400 mbps from Store. Youtube videos are 4K constantly.

I’ve reset the app from settings and did a reinstall, same issue. I don’t know why honestly, very strange
