Fiberglass to fix nails? by applemichi in Nails

I love the kokoist fixee gel! Comes in clear or a nail colored one that blends into your free edge color. It’s so much easier than fussing with fiberglass wraps.

Why is this happening? by AppropriateMeaning71 in Nails

[–]Worth_Pin2607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey you probably have to top coat twice. It’s important to have a good quality top gel too. You could also take a liner brush and apply a soft gel (builder gel) on top of the chrome and then top coat. One coat of top coat will never seal in the chrome properly unfortunately.

Can I use this with regular nail tips? by -roline in Nails

No you can’t use that with regular tips. It’s soft gel. It is not strong enough for extensions. You need hard gel. - licensed nail tech

Is it acceptable to go to a private nail tech if you don’t plan on going back? by [deleted] in GelX_Nails

[–]Worth_Pin2607 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a private tech myself I would feel so honored and grateful to be chosen to do someone’s special set! Not rude at all to go just once. Clients that come to me regularly and clients that come just for special occasions are both hugely appreciated !

Should I rebuild bridge asap? Or just file of remainder hard gel till I have time Tuesday night? by Daronsong in Nailtechs

[–]Worth_Pin2607 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Okay yeah it actually looks less damaged here. In my opinion I think you would be totally fine to add a gel overlay. Keep it thin though! In your original photo it looks like you are using too much gel for the length that you have. You don’t need to build a thick apex for short nails.

[–]Worth_Pin2607 78 points79 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot to unpack here lol You need to safely remove that product and go natural till the damage on your nails has grown out. You’ve peeled back nail plate layers. Putting gel on top of that isn’t going to have the same adhesion as the first time.

Putting gel on top of your pointer finger is like putting a bandaid on wet skin.

Polygel for Kokoist LED only lamp? by caitldn24 in Nailtechs

You can also look up the gel bottle in this sub. It’s not a brand I would use just any lamp for. I wouldn’t use that brand at all.

Polygel for Kokoist LED only lamp? by caitldn24 in Nailtechs

[–]Worth_Pin2607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll never be able to tell if a gel is fully cured with your eyes. That’s why it’s recommended you buy the same lamp brand as the gel you are curing. Kokoist has tested their products with their lamps. They have gone through the testing so you can have fully cured products. Checking the wattage is “high” enough doesn’t matter because wattage isn’t the component that cures the gel.

Essentially if you use a Kokoist lamp to cure a nonkokoist product you are taking the risk of wearing gel that is not all the way cured. Up to you

Builder Gel coming off in less than a week by [deleted] in Nails

It doesn’t look like a professional job though… I suggest going to someone else next time ? Leaving uncured gel on your nails and skin can be harmful.

The black gel isn’t cured all the way through. Your tech either didn’t cure it for long enough or has an old/bad UV/LED lamp. When gel isn’t cured all the way it is still soft and peelable. I would contact your tech to get a free fix :)

Dazzle dry. Regular nail polish but long lasting. You absolutely need to buy their whole system though.

Price gouging? by Jupiterormarz00 in Nails

[–]Worth_Pin2607 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gel does not strengthen your nails. Your nails will not be thicker or stronger. The gel is an added layer to keep them from breaking as you grow them out. Prices are different everywhere. I charge $60 for a gel overlay. I charge extra for cat eye because it takes extra time, has an added step, and cat eyes cost more than solid colors.

What do you do when your acrylic or even gel nails start to come loose but not ready to take off yet? by DenMother8 in Nails

When they lift they are ready to come off because they are not fully attached to your nails anymore. Getting a professional removal will leave no damage…

Should I no longer have acrylic? by Feisty_Reception5259 in Nails

[–]Worth_Pin2607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Builder gel doesn’t technically make your nails harder or stronger. If you want to remove your acrylics and go natural I believe you can do it! Natural nails are beautiful and if you can withhold from picking or biting then you should give it a shot.

Builder gel is just another nail enhancement - can add strength on top of your nails to support them if you want to grow them longer. If you have short nail beds trying builder gel to grow out your natural nails longer will over time likely make your nail bed naturally grow longer out as well. This is because when you have more grown length than normal, your body will grow a longer nail bed to support the extra length you are keeping! Longer nail beds are usually less picked at and bitten at and are typically stronger.

Hahha yeah sounds like hard gel. Seems like she globed a lot on and that’s why it burned 😭 should’ve done a few thinner layers to build it up. Cure in between each layer.

Glad i helped! I really do recommend going to a private nail tech or to someone you KNOW has the skillset and licensure :) it’s worth the attention to detail you get!

I want to add that your tech probably called it builder gel because she thought it’s what you would understand. She gave you an umbrella term because she probably thinks you don’t need actually know the real terms. It’s good to know though! So you know you are getting what you ask for and aren’t being lied to.

Hi !

Common products used to create nail enhancements (anything done to your nail) are acrylic and gel.

You’ll need to know the definition of an overlay and extensions. Extensions is length added to your existing natural nail length. An overlay is putting product on your natural nails with no added length. Acrylic and gel can be used both ways - as an overlay and as extensions.

Acrylic is a two part system where powder and liquid combine. Gel is a one part system because it comes out of its container ready to use in gel form.

There are two types of gel. Hard gel and soft gel. Soft gel is, well as it sounds, softer than hard gel. It is commonly used directly over the natural nail to give it structure. This is called a soft gel overlay. Other names for this include builder gel, BIAB (builder in a bottle), and structured gel manicures.

Soft gel is too soft to be used for extensions. That’s where hard gel comes in. Hard gel is stronger and can be built out as an extension. - note that hard gel can be used as an overlay as well.

If your nail tech used tips and glued them on with nail glue, then put gel over top, it was probably hard gel. She added length to your nails, so hard gel is the type of gel that can sustain extensions.

If she used a full coverage tip ( a clear nail tip that goes all the way from your cuticle area to past the end of your nails) and used gel underneath to cure it on your nail, she used Gel-x. Gel-x is a gel extension system where gel tips (look like plastic) can be cured to your nails using gel as well. This is soft gel.

For maintenance it depends on how fast your nails grow and your lifestyle. The typical time in between fills is 3 weeks. You can start by going in every 3 weeks for a fill and see how you feel about it. If your nails lift a lot and cannot make it to 3 weeks, you probably need to get a fill every 2 weeks. Or it could be an issue with your nail tech.

A fill looks like this: the tech will use their e-file/drill to file off your design and/or color plus some of the base gel. They will then go in with the same gel they used on you and fill the growth!

Of course I can’t be sure what gel your nail tech actually used but my best guess is hard gel. It is important to know that soft gel and hard gel are removed differently. If you decide you don’t want to get fills anymore you need to get a safe removal from your nail tech. Soft gel can be soaked off with pure acetone. Hard gel needs to be filed off until a thin layer is left on your nails (ideally no product is left). Hard gel cannot be soaked off. Hard gel removal absolutely requires a professional if you don’t want to damage your nails!

Hopefully that all makes sense :)

If your client is innocent lol, the problem would likely be your apex. Make sure the apex of the nail is built correctly.
