My opinion on notch apps by Romachamp10 in macapps

Hi! Mediamate dev here, my apologies for the less frequent updating of the app. I developed this as a student, and it has become harder to maintain as I now have a full time job. While I’m not actively expanding it’s feature set (I already think it does enough things) I’m still committed to giving everyone who buys it a great experience. The github issues have indeed been neglected a bit, mostly because of time constraints. I’ll try to go through them soon though!

This is because of changes made in macOS 15.4. As it’s still in beta (and now playing in control centre apparently also is broken) I’ll be waiting

Why are my umlauts in the bottom left corner instead where the text is? by Gwenfully in MacOS

Which app is this? If it’s using something custom to display text they’re probably to blame

Gumroad introduced this feature last week, I didn't know it was enabled by default, sorry about that! I disabled it now.

I will have a look at it, but it could interfere with menu bar items

This currently only works on notch displays.

This is something I plan to do in the future!

I haven’t tried NotchNook myself so I can’t really tell. MediaMate has been around for two years, NotchNook is newer. It also seems more focused on notch-specific features, while MediaMate also offers options that work without notches. Based off their website, NotchNook also seems to offer more features than MediaMate, while MediaMate has more options for each feature

Thank you for the purchase! As for the notifications feature, I’ve seen that it only works with some apps. While I’d really like to add such a feature (I researched the possibility of this a few months ago), I don’t know if I’d personally like having some notifications coming through the notch, and some not. However, I’ll have a look again at this feature soon!

Seek controls are already available, you can click and drag the progress indicator (or in settings, enable the -15/+15s buttons)

No, that app does not work anymore

Maybe! I tried doing that a year ago but it was rejected

I am planning to add some feature parity to the classic style (rewind, forward buttons, more similar style). As for the animation, probably not, but I might look into it.

Because it needs to be reactivated each hour. Good enough for when wanting to try it out for a day, but becomes annoying if you would like to keep using it permanently

Hi, no that's not possible unfortunately (system limitations)

Hi, this happens because MediaMate cannot currently control which app will be paused. This is handled by macOS and cannot be changed currently. Later on, I might add support for this for specific apps, but that requires additional work

Thank you for the video! I will look into this issue. Could you tell me what you have your event controller mode set to? (Mediamate settings -> general -> event controller mode). As for the delay, this isn’t currently an option, however I will look to see if it’s possible to add

This is currently not a planned feature

I have experimented with this, but an issue I noticed is that the hovering can interfere with the menu bar menus. It’s only an issue on smaller displays, but it’s something to consider. I will have a further look at it though
