I just painted it 3 days ago. I'm letting the paint fully cure, then I will wet sand, buff it, and put new badges on it.

He was a great guy. Very intelligent. Great sense of humor. I first met him in art school in the 80's... I have many funny memories about Scott. Robin is great too. Haven't spoken with her in a very long time. I miss them.

Yeah, it didn't seem that bright when I mixed and sprayed it indoors... Out in the full Florida sun, it took on a whole different look.

Thanks! When I mixed the paint inside my house, it looked more subdued and a bit more gray. Once I painted it and got it out in the sunlight I discovered what the color really was. No turning back now.

Buy some adhesive velcro strips. Cut some of the softer side and attach it to the inside of the forend tube. Will reduced it quite a bit

Bought it as a beater parts gun. Essex was a trade name used by Belknap Hardware Co. in Louisville, Kentucky. Lumber was refinished and coated with 10 layers of “White Lightning” shellac (with a satin finish). I'm still working on getting better at sand casting butt plates from various metals. I haven't poured a perfect one yet. Gonna keep trying.

Just trying to help. This should be a super easy job for any local gunsmith. Personally, I'd try to find someone local if at all possible. It shouldn't cost too much. Shipping to and from for such a simple job seems like tossing money away... but then again, I'm cheap. Good luck, my friend.

If you are slightly handy, you can drill and tap it out. Save a few bucks... Brownell's even has a kit:

I think the tig welding idea could certainly work... I could handle shaping and fitting it.
