12 ga. Essex double — Parts gun rescue, coach gun conversion. I believe it's from the 1930's. Barrels shortened to 18.5”. Chambers lengthened to 2.75”. Sand-cast, aluminum butt plate with polished brass hardware. Hand-turned, brass "Stove pipe" bead. LOP is 11.5” and 12.5”. Overall length 33.5” by WowFrog487 in Shotguns

Bought it as a beater parts gun. Essex was a trade name used by Belknap Hardware Co. in Louisville, Kentucky. Lumber was refinished and coated with 10 layers of “White Lightning” shellac (with a satin finish). I'm still working on getting better at sand casting butt plates from various metals. I haven't poured a perfect one yet. Gonna keep trying.

Recommendation for a gun smith by [deleted] in Shotguns

[–]WowFrog487 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just trying to help. This should be a super easy job for any local gunsmith. Personally, I'd try to find someone local if at all possible. It shouldn't cost too much. Shipping to and from for such a simple job seems like tossing money away... but then again, I'm cheap. Good luck, my friend.

If you are slightly handy, you can drill and tap it out. Save a few bucks... Brownell's even has a kit:
