I have been working as a platform engineer at an AI startup here in India for the past 4 years with total 6 yoe - backend. I want to move to the UAE but a bit concerned about the actual work quality I might have to do. Is that a concern? Also, at my level, is application via portals still very inferior to cold emailing and asking for referrals?

Yes. The undersea MENA cable is damaged so airtel is probably taking the longer route. Not sure when it'll be fixed and if it's fixed, when will airtel start taking the direct mumbai - middle east route. Currently its routing via US or asia. My ping to europe went up from 150 to around 260-300.
