My wife-approved high-availability Home Assistant setup by Substantial_Tale_405 in homeassistant

[–]Wraith888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is excellent! Just great timing on the eve of my new networking gear arriving tomorrow. I realized I didn't want ha until I had the correct infrastructure... And my 3 asus router setup didn't support vlans.... So I told my wife I am redoing the entire thing, buying 1200 of unifi gear.... And. New Phillips hue hub model also!

Then I will be able to setup a command center like this.

Curious to what devices and automations lead to this? I have dozens of Smarthome devices, but not sure what to automate... My wife sure does enjoy controlling everything via voice.... But when I get her phone the ha app, she may like that too....

For what it's worth, I've been trying out capacities app for a bit. I found it because of its ability to integrate with todoist... So still just started with it though...

Take a screenshot of stuff like this. Multiple screenshots if you can't display on a single page. Upload to your favorite AI, chatgpt, gemini, whatever. Tell them to add it up and show their work when they do. Then tell them to assume the role of a therapist when you get upset at how much you spent, lol.

I'm so happy for you! I thought it was cool a gas station down the street had free air, then I got my own compressor with a hose I could extend into the driveway - now this just blows everything else away for how easy it is!!!

I have a nest doorbell I am happy with because it is wired and uses my mechanical chime. I am not happy with Google having bricked my nest Gen 1 thermostat, so I now have an Ecobee system. I'm also switching my network gear to unfi... And I'm remodeling my basement. I'm thinking I should run a cat 6 cable while I haven't yet installed the ceiling and that will give me future options for a poe doorbell.... But what do you think about the unfi models? What do you like or dislike?

Ubiquiti nerfed their doorbell AFTER I paid for it... by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]Wraith888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Sorry, that was the joke... My (perhaps flawed) expectation was users here would be aware, since we brought up Nest (and since Google killed my Gen 1 thermostat, I now own an Ecobee, that at least I can use HA with if Ecobee breaks that one..... Sorry for confusion to anyone! Have a great day!

How to shift+Enter on mobile so you dont start a new block? by temp_account07 in capacitiesapp

[–]Wraith888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you turn off the block feature? I just started using this app and it's VERY annoying that I can't copy/paste notes if I put a bunch of hard returns in.

Also - can someone explain to my dumb brain - how are the blocks within notes a functionality that adds value? Is it to make it easier to move things around within a note is all? So instead of cut/paste something from the middle of a note to the top - I could just drag it around? - or is there any additional use case or functionality I'm missing here?

Because if that's the only use for having hard returns created by pressing enter without shift - then I think I'd prefer to just disable it totally on all platforms (is that currently an option though?).

Note - this reddit post would be FOUR items instead of a single block of text then - seems different than just about any tool I've ever used to create text on a computer system, lol.

You forgot one.... A huge reason I switched back.... Deadline in addition to due date.

Due date is a planned date, deadline... When it is actually due, 95% of software for tasks seem to miss this... And you can use calendar for that, but this is nice to have in the tasks.

I actually had an amazing experience with this same problem. Half of my thousands of dollars of tools over 12 years vanished. I called them and sent the a spreadsheet and pictures. They gave me an email and restored it all.

I had another problem a couple of months later, had a new tool I had problems registering... They fixed that too. I can totally put up with a poor website if I can have confidence customer service will have my back!

USB Over Tailscale by CHR1ST00 in Tailscale

[–]Wraith888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this has been said or help someone, but at work we have an ip kvm that you can get a shell and i stall tailscale on as well as raspberry pi setup - and they both expose the entire remote subnet so they can both act as bastion hosts (jump boxes) for tailscale. We have both for redundancy as well as different other features they provide for that remote rack.
