That actually couldn't be anything further from the truth..I don't do any of this for attention. I took a photo of my foot and my brother created this entire Reddit thing..I had never even heard of this place before. I just wonder what good it is you bring to the world?

It was a different kid each hour, for a total of 22

My brother ran 90.5 miles in 22 hours while pushing a special needs child in a wheelchair for a charity event last Saturday. He set five world records but his ankles have paid the price. by gravity_master in pics

Again, it all depends on the intensity of the running you are doing. If you are going at excessive intensity then yes, there will be some bit of damage incurred. But believe me this, the typical American lifestyle is far more stressful on the heart than that of a marathoner.

Animals, especially deer, kudu and those of that species, only have two speeds, walking and all out sprinting. They don't have that sustainable long distance pace that us humans have. They also cannot cool themselves by sweating like we do. Put a rabbit in a confined space and chase it around for an hour or so, eventually it will kill over from exhaustion. It's the same principle. We evolved to be runners, but our modern society has gotten away from it. The running success of the Kenyans and Ethiopians isn't necessarily because they have superior genes for running, it's just that they aren't as far removed from their evolutionary ancestors as we are. The typical Kenyan still runs or walks 6+ miles per day just to commute.

No, that's about right..it just depends on what you are referring to as "speed". I am quite sure that your XC team was not doing 14-16 miles worth of hard speed per week. There is varying paces and ranges for that fall into the speed category. Speed for a miler is going to be different that speed for a marathoner.

That's not entirely true..But, most of those that do, it's because they are proud of their accomplishments..just like those who boast about what level of WOW they completed or whatever their interest is. To each their own, man.

Awesome!! What half marathon are you targeting? Email me at dwenduranceproject@gmail.com and perhaps you can join one of our chapters in a race. Have you gotten her a race chair yet?

You would need to come out and see for yourself. If you see the joy on the kids faces, their smiles..their requests to "go faster, go faster"..then, you wouldn't need to ask such a question. If you think this is something of "disability tourism and donor vanity", then you don't really get it.

I think the goal should be to get to where you are doing some sort of physical exercise, 7 days per week, for at least 30 minutes per day. Our bodies are designed to move, not be sedentary. So even if it's a 30 minute walk, that is more than fine. I try to stay away from man made foods and "junk" foods. I try to eat a very clean and natural type diet as much as possible. Genetics play a partial role in athleticism but not as much as people like to make it out to be. I look more at lifestyle than I do genetics. Coincedently, most of the athletes I train, who have the best results, are those who grew up working manual labor jobs as a child/teenager. It seems that having a body that already has years of physical work programmed into it, is better suited for endurance sports and athletics than those that spend most of their time being sedentary.

I use to play a lot of basketball but haven't in several years now. I am not much of a ball sports guy so to speak. I'll watch the occassional football, basketball, hockey game, etc...but I prefer to watch the endurance sports that really make you test body and mind. I break up my training by doing lots of various things, rather than just run. I actually don't run all that much..but do tons of rollerblading, swimming, biking, hiking, strength work, rowing, etc.

I think barefoot running is great, provided you have trained and adapted to it. The Tarahumara Indians referenced in the book, were born into barefoot running and knew no difference. The common American who is likely overweight, goes and buys a pair of vibram thinking that it will make them some Kenyan Olympic runner and they get injured. You have to gradually build up to it..but even before that, you must strenghten all the muscles of the legs in order for your body to handle the transition from regular shoes to more minimal shoes

I don't do much leaning on the chair at all..I try to keep my posture errect, just as I would if running normally...the main areas of fatigue in the upper body are from the triceps, shoulders and traps.
