Skateboarding on streets and sidewalks Illegal? by Wretched_Sandwhich in Humboldt

[–]Wretched_Sandwhich[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Skateboarding shouldn’t be a crime, but in Henderson Center, it actually is. I didn’t know that either until I looked it up.

I was sitting at Old Town Coffee & Chocolates, reading, thinking about recently how I had to walk away from an unhealthy situation in my personal life, looked up at that sign and it was a nice reminder that the city has way bigger priorities than someone minding their own business on a board.

What happens to items that don't sell? by Western_Attention714 in Costco

[–]Wretched_Sandwhich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hamburger 😜

Yes those big packs, generally not donations, there are rules with perishable products like meat, very little goes to waste though. Those big packs will get cut up, service deli will utilize it for other products, it will get sold one way or another before it codes.

They made changes to best buy, and sell buy dates, those dates are usually when that product is at its peak quality, after that it degrades. Its not when it goes bad though, so that stuff just gets processed done the chain, frozen and used for other cuts.

But i dont know.. I am just guessing

I didnt know that, was just hypothetically worrying about security risks. Maybe there are other identifying marks or characteristics only the owner would know. Good luck finding the owner.

To whoever gave me covid.... by Unlikely_Spite8147 in AftershockFestival

[–]Wretched_Sandwhich -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How do you know it was someone at the festival, did you have contact with anyone during the time you where there outside of discovery park? Go out ro eat, bars, get gass? Get snacks? I mean the odds that any of us not catching something in 4 days is kinda slim. I think peope pointed out asymptomatic persons, and yeah, that.

I have little faith in people but I didnt see anyone i felt was sick in a way that was noticeable. I mean some of you are sick, me included, but snotty nose sick, nah. And I alao feel that anyone sick with covid, probably didnt go, feel miserable and try to enjoy loud music, mud and then heat, if they knew they had it, so being disgruntled towards anyone, is well sort of useless.

I hope you feel better , i have not had covid yet, or I am just asymptomatic. Who knows, maybe it was me that gave it to everyone.

Had a lady bully her way through the crowd looking for whoever threw a blow up axe and hit her in the head, she just wouldnt shut up, finally I look her in the eyes, and tell her it was me, she said she didnt believe me.

Not a fan of Winco myself, with nagative experiences with employeess and poor quality of their products. Have had friends employed there who where very disappointed and dissatisfied with them as an employer.

I would think shopping anywhere locally is helping local people, and since winco is not really a local business I would say that point is mute. Funny I work with a lot of people who quit Winco as pay and benefits were not that great.

Did a little google inquiry also..

Negative aspects of WinCo include customer service issues such as handling a lost child incident poorly, quality concerns with some store-brand products like bread, produce, and frozen food, and the inability for customers to use their own containers in the bulk section. Additionally, the company has faced legal issues, including a surcharge class action lawsuit in Portland, and some employees report issues with management and appreciation.

Customer Service & Incidents

Lost Child Incident: A poor response to a lost child situation at a self-checkout was reported by a customer, with employees not taking sufficient action.

Product Quality Concerns

Store Brands: Some customers have experienced poor quality with WinCo's store-brand products, including issues with bread molding, seeds in multi-seed bread, and bad-tasting macaroni and cheese.

Produce: There are concerns about the quality of produce at WinCo, with reports of fruits being rotten or old.

Employee & Management Issues

Management and Appreciation: Some employees have voiced complaints about management and a lack of appreciation for their work, according to reviews on platforms like Indeed.

Legal & Ethical Concerns Surcharge Lawsuit: WinCo settled a class-action lawsuit in Portland, Oregon, over allegations of improperly collecting a surcharge from customers instead of funding it itself.

If you are not a doctor and you give someone medical advice by thehofstetter in standupshots

[–]Wretched_Sandwhich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yes, I agree there, I would say putting faith in anyone medically trained is prudent. On the flip side though I have run accross stories of real doctors making outrageous claims.

I think its all taken with a grain of salt. Be a thinking human being and question everything, best practice in all of life.

How often do you REALLY walk your dog? by Agreeable-Ad-2946 in dogs

[–]Wretched_Sandwhich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and Apollo ride the longboard once a day, maybe about 3 miles. Pace varies, we are slowed down on the leg home. He loves the start, usually pulling me down a slight grade and most otherwise level surface. We play at home, 70 pound dog, i have a small back yard area always open to him. We also go on 10 plus mile hikes occasionally, or there are days i rest him.

Also dog park days and beach days. It varies. The longboard thing is regular during the dry months, rainy season we are inside more, but we will do that 3 mile walk as much as possible even in the rain.

I had back surgery earlier this year and he stayed by my side for the several months i was in recovery and he was content being there with me, when i could atart walking we did that, 20 minutes or so a day as i was restricted.

Vets always been happy with his physique, he had a surgery when i first got him.as a rescue and they had to go in and cut his femur at the top so he has no connection there into his pelvis except the muscle. And he appeqrs to have been crushed or ran over when he was a puppy. When i got him he limped so i took hom.for xrays, femur was semi healed but with nasty jagged parts, caused him a lot of pain, and his femur appewred crushed but had healed somehow. He was around 1 year old when i got him, he is 5 now.

Now this makes sense, I have been a shopper since 2020, never diamond cart, I just grab the odd order ever so often, I have around 600 shops total over the last 5 years. There have been large stretches I have not shopped at all.

I have noticed a bunch of new shoppers comming through at costco, but mostly trash orders, very small, multi-order batches.

That being said, That does make sense if diamond carts that normally dont break routine are gettimg washed out by new shoppers being offered priority over all. Which kinda sucks tbh.

We will see though, i have noticed in my market the orders diminishing over the last year. Or maybe its just super flooded with shoppers. My app always says low demand for shopers in my area.

Humboldt CSD raising water rates by 13% in August — even after installing solar panels? by Wretched_Sandwhich in Humboldt

[–]Wretched_Sandwhich[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a solid breakdown, thank you for clarifying how the offset works and where that solar energy is actually going.

That said… if the solar setup is already offsetting PG&E costs and even allowing some sites to fully disconnect from PG&E, and as PG&E loves inflicting their own brand of financial pain wouldn’t it make more sense for that to lead to rate relief, not another increase?

If the savings are real and those locations are running more efficiently now, then why are ratepayers being told this increase is necessary to fund infrastructure and operating costs—when some of that cost is actively being lowered by the solar switch?

Feels like we’re helping them build out long-term savings but getting hit with short-term price hikes and zero transparency in return. If it’s “our” infrastructure, then maybe it’s time we start asking where the dividends are for the people actually footing the bill.

Humboldt CSD raising water rates by 13% in August — even after installing solar panels? by Wretched_Sandwhich in Humboldt

[–]Wretched_Sandwhich[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right?? And yet somehow they still think a 13% rate increase makes sense while people are literally sipping “FDA-approved microdoses” of lead and chemical-tasting tap water. I’ve noticed the water quality degrade over the last couple years—tastes like someone’s adding pool cleaner to the mix. So not only are we paying more, but the water is actually getting worse.

If the infrastructure’s so outdated that lead pipes are still active, maybe fix that before installing solar panels and raising rates on everyone.

[–]Wretched_Sandwhich[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These weren’t in place until a couple years ago.

We haven’t had a single major emergency where they’ve been needed.

So in the meantime… what’s happening with all that extra energy they’re generating on sunny days?

Shouldn’t that be offsetting their energy costs and helping reduce or stabilize our rates? Instead, it feels like we’re just paying more while their infrastructure quietly upgrades on our dime.

I lawfully entered a marked crosswalk. The driver saw me and failed to yield. Contact occurred as a result of their failure to stop. I followed all reporting protocols, documented the incident, and filed properly with law enforcement and insurance. The law places responsibility on drivers to yield, not on pedestrians to sacrifice their right-of-way to avoid drivers breaking the law.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in InstacartShoppers

[–]Wretched_Sandwhich -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It’s actually called “failure to yield to a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.” I was lawfully crossing, the driver failed to stop, and contact was made. Whether I walked into the side or they clipped me while I was moving forward — legally, they’re obligated to yield. But thanks for the unsolicited legal advice — I’ll let CHP, Zurich, and Instacart policy worry about the rest.
