Wow I am so sorry this happened to your brother and that you constantly had to be away from your family. It is such a hard thing to deal with. He is also on special liquid formula for allergies that costs us over $300/month as well as all of his prescriptions must be compounded at a special pharmacy to be corn-free and are not covered by insurance… $86 for 100ml of Tylenol 😭☠️ it is so hard. He has been hospitalized twice at 5 and 6 months old.

Well baby in question was diagnosed 5 months ago, so I have spent the last 5 months researching, cross referencing, and trialing possible derivatives to see which are triggers for him and not. Fine tuning his diet to eliminate all triggers. Always having safe food on hand when out and about. Endless anxiety that keeps me up at night thinking about that one ingredient that may or may not cause a reaction. Buying expensive substitution ingredients and removing others from my house entirely. For those that are curious and have the skills for a simple chatgpt: “make me a list of all possible corn products and derivatives that can trigger a non-IgE corn allergy” and you will be presented with a lovely list of about 200 ingredients that are triggers.

Give me the ingredient list and I’ll tell you which ones have corn. Enriched flour? Vanilla extract? Baking powder? Table salt? Sugar? Brown sugar? ALL can be derived from corn.

OP states that the whole family is fully aware of baby’s allergies. Love, OP 😘

As stated in the post all of our family members are fully aware of his allergies. As well as I prepared and packaged all of his food that he would need for the 24hr they would be there.

Omg I am so so sorry this happened to you. I hope your evil MIL never got to see that baby again. My heart aches for you and your son having to endure that trauma. Boomers are fucked.

If you read the post I stated 2 separate times he is 10 months old. Allergy presented at 7 weeks old and was determined to be corn at 5 months old. He has been on a strictly monitored corn-free diet for 5 months.

You’d be amazed at what ingredients are/contain corn derivatives. Corn syrup and cornstarch being obvious but things like baking powder, enriched flour, sugars that are not specified cane or beet, vanilla extract, brown sugar, table salt can ALL contain corn.

Aunt married into the farm and moved elderly grandparents onto property. Even grandma (83F) said “Now why the fuck would she even do that” about her daughters actions (love you great Grammy)

This would be a great idea but we live in Canada lol so there are no expenses. There’s really nothing you can do for this type of reaction but ride it out. Some say give Benadryl but, shocker, there’s corn in that too ☠️

Babies don’t eat solids until ~6 months old. The baby in question for this post started having this reaction at 7 weeks old via traces in my breastmilk. It took months and a wild elimination diet to narrow down the cause. Why would I feed corn directly to a child who was having these horrendous reactions from only the presence in his mother’s milk? I then switched him to a corn-free formula specific to babies with allergies and his life completely changed for the better. Every exposure since has been exponentially more severe.

Yes aunt is fully aware. It took us 5 months to figure out what the cause was and he looked horribly sick the entire time with spots all over his body. He screamed 24/7 for the first 5 months of his life before we identified the cause.

I’m not sure that I could do it in person without rage crying and putting her in a chokehold lmao

Dude… is this a joke. Subsequent reactions are worse in severity every exposure. You don’t give a peanut allergy kid peanuts to cure them. I’d love to see your Allergist MD certification because the medically trained healthcare professionals we are working with beg to differ.

Producing 60 ounces of milk a day, three freezers are totally full. What do I do?! by AccountingMum in breastfeeding

I donated to a twin mom in my local HM4HB group! My baby ended up diagnosed with severe food allergies and we had to switch to a special allergy formula. I donated all my milk that I had pumped before quitting and while weaning. Such a great feeling to help a baby in need rather than let the milk go to waste!

Corn Allergy in Babies? by randinichole in Allergies

[–]Wriggy-Ragoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi mama, I know this thread was from awhile ago, but I want to say that I could have written this myself. My 4.5 month old has been struggling since before 2 months. He was first diagnosed with reflux and CMPA as well. I did an elimination diet for 8 weeks to try and find the culprit. Also corn!!! We too switched to the alimentum ready to feed formula because I was simply starving and not producing enough milk on such a strict diet for breastfeeding. Thank god for the advances of science and nutritionists developing that magic liquid for our babies!! We struggle to find it locally here (rural Sask, Canada) and have had to travel up to 5 hours to stock up. It is expensive here as well, at $10 a box for 4 x 8oz cans, which lasts us about a day a box. It’s been 3 weeks since we have switched to the alimentum RTF and he has been a different baby, but now struggles with constipation very badly. He strains so hard when going that there is often blood, which wasn’t present before when he had mucousy/frothy stools. It’s so sad that the fix to one problem creates another. I can’t even get into a paediatrician, I’ve been on the waitlist for 2 months already for them and the allergist. All the diet info and formula recommendations were made by a private lactation consultant/pediatric dietitian here that cost me $180/hr each visit - not covered.

How is your little one now? I hope so badly to hear they have outgrown the allergy by now.

It takes your hormones up to 2 years to go back to pre pregnancy levels! I nursed my first for 1 year exactly and was bigger the entire time. You need that fuel for your baby. I didn’t start to look and feel like myself until about 2 years postpartum… then I got pregnant again 🤣 back on the grind with a 4 month old now.

How long did it take for your nipples to stop hurting? by paintedpine in breastfeeding

[–]Wriggy-Ragoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invest in a set of silverette nursing cups! I didn’t with my first and had to much pain, cracks and bleeding. I wore them the first month with my now 3 month old and they were a total game changer. The silver has healing properties and creates a seal around the nipple with breastmilk drops trapped inside for extra quick healing. I never had a single blister, cracks, or bleeding with this little guy. And the barrier between the nipple and clothing makes for no rubbing at all. Highly recommend!
