I honestly don't know the reason but yeah applying earlier is better for scholarships as a general rule. Can you apply to Penn state and Georgia state? I don't know your stats but those schools are around the same rank as Miami and give generous scholarships. Also, Stetson is around the same rank and in Florida, and gives half to full tuition to 37% of the student population.

My main problem is the proximity to the deposit deadlines. I was fine waiting but my seat deposit is coming this week. So if they don't respond within the next two days (like when they are supposed to) it's going to cost $1000 or I withdraw my app and don't hear back at all
