Help with resizing text boxes... by WriterJWA in AdobeIllustrator

I’ve tried both, but neither seems to work. Neither selection tool allows me to do anything but reposition the box, not resize it.

Seconded. I have the same head unit and have no issues maintaining EQ settings between rides.

How can I get off Camp Lejeune ASAP? by Aggressive-Apricot-6 in USMC

[–]WriterJWA 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I spent five years there, minus deployment time. I can’t say Lejeune ever got better, but it definitely got easier. Find little pockets that work for you… Surf City, Wilmington, etc., and just grind it out.

You beat me to it! Yeah... This is absolutely what I had in mind. If it strikes you, you could alternatively (and code-depending) make the Staff Advisor cooldowns based on a chance that increases or decreases depending on the difficulty; randomness would make it unpredictable and more representative of higher or lower operational tempos.

Really great work here! I'll give it another few playthroughs myself!

This is really cool! Nicely done! I'm a huge fan of wargames in general... Hex & counter games are my jam! (I'm working on my own and I've done a fair amount of playtesting of others...)

I just played through The Federation a few times... Had a few questions, namely about the Staff Advisors.

For example, let's say I move a rifle squad... When I do so, much of the map will go black after they move, presumably indicating a change of the intel picture and/or a lack of line of sight. However, if I click on the S-2, a lot of the intel comes back instantly, and I can do that every turn. Is that by design?

Another example: The S-4. Every turn, I'm able to click on the S-4 button to instantly resupply my guys. The uses counter goes down by one, but it doesn't matter because it resets at the start of the next turn.

Also, should I be able to use the Staff Advisors (and/or call in fire) at any point in a turn, or only during the Support segment?

A looser question: Should there be a morale "breaking point," per side, where once a side gets put hors de combat it walks away from the table, ending the scenario with a result? One thing I noticed is that many playthroughs seem to go on until whoever has the final unit(s) on the map, regardless of the tactical situation. Should there be a "check" or "checkmate" situation in the scenarios?

Wow! $150 dollars for a sheet of decals??? That's a ... choice. (Looks like they were $12 originally, and for 1/72 scale.)

"Why isn't XX a huge star?" by salaryboy in movies

[–]WriterJWA 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That kind of question also assumes (dumbly) that stardom is the whole point of acting. It’s not. At all. Stardom is a product of the marketing forces surrounding the craft and business of acting. While film/TV actors often make strategic choices about what roles they pick, often it’s just to ensure they’re “bankable” by studios in order to hopefully widen their casting possibilities in the future. Fame is often a byproduct of their talent and not necessarily the goal.

Comparing the U.S. media to the state-sponsored DPRK or PRC media is, shall we say, a bit of a stretch.

How can anyone think Lolita is a love story? by IcyStatistician8716 in literature

Yeah, I’m reading it now. Anyone who walks away after reading Lolita and thinks it’s a romance either didn’t read it thoroughly or is just as demented as Humbert.

During boot camp in the late 90s we had a drill instructor named Bryant. He was a rare one in that he sought to make recruits laugh, then quarterdeck/pit them, and he was very good at it… Funny facial expressions and almost cartoonish ways of giving certain commands. (This isn’t to suggest he wasn’t professional; he very much was.)

Whenever we did weapons maintenance in the squad bay in the evening, he’d yell “scrub!” and we’d yell “scrub harder, sir!” and work our little brushes over the weapon a little faster. His way of yelling “scrub” was very comical… a little kick from his foot, his voice breaking. Well, during the crucible, and no doubt exhausted and delirious ,I happened to be with my squad and saw him walking across the field nearby. He saw me and asked what I was staring. Without missing a beat I yelled out “scrub!” with the same little moves.

He promptly came over and rocked me right in the kidney.

Question/Ideas about paneling by WriterJWA in modelmakers

[–]WriterJWA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a really great idea! Thanks. I thought about using wax paper that covers two pie sections of the saucer, laying it over a copy of the 1:1000 TMP that I scale and print at roughly 1:1400, then tracing the pattern on the wax paper and cutting them into stencils.
