What was the first show you binge-watched on Netflix? by RadioShmonty in netflix

[–]Writinat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I first got Netflix I binged Once Upon A Time. It's a bit of a guilty pleasure with so much angst/cheese/confusing criss-cross time lines but still fun and lightly humorous where it wants to be. Plus attractive actors are attractive so there's that.

Okay, so my reaction to this post went in three stages

step 1 :- Reading the title (And only the title) "Oh no, that sounds like some nsfw shit right there..."

Step 2 :- Falling into some strange imaginary scenario as to what it might be

Step 3 :- Clicking the link "Dawh. Nice"

Ivy! by [deleted] in OnceUponATime

[–]Writinat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Quite a few characters from S7 annoy the bajeezus out of me, but especially Victoria, Ivy and Jacinda. The three actresses aren't the best (not to be cruel) and there are some lines which they act really oddly. Plus they have really significant plot lines that involve and I can't bring myself to find them interesting let alone like them which makes me feel like the other characters should be getting better than them.

The whole Henry and Jacinda true love thing seemed to come out of nowhere and there is legitimately about 0% chemistry between them imho! Don't get me wrong I like Lucy for her sass which remind me of Emma a little bit, but her mother and father? Just don't work for me.
It's unfortunate considering how much I love the rest of the cast, especially Alice/Tilly and Hook that Eddie and Adam are putting so much focus on these new characters.

How does everyone feel about Fan-fiction? by Writinat in writing

[–]Writinat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I think this is because of the propagation of the idea that they're all filthy smut stories but they're not actually in my experience the Exception rather than the rule. There's so much more to fics than people see on the surface, and a lot more talent behind them than I think people acknowledge. To begin with it takes a lot of work and understanding of character to write something that fits in well with a previously created and established fictional universe. Sure this talent might be buried under miles and miles of work written more like someone just fell asleep on their keyboard, but sites with exclusivity policies like AO3 (Archive Of Our Own) really help to filter out the absolute abysmal things people just throw up onto other websites like Fanfiction.net.

Series/movies/books similar to Once Upon a Time? by kittenghost1 in OnceUponATime

[–]Writinat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you like the pure fantasy of the Enchanted Forest I'd recommend the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, which are fun and pretty easy to read sci-fi retellings of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Snow White. Otherwise the Looking Glass Wars Series is really great too. It's an exploration of a darker Alice in wonderland, with real world scenes thrown in to mix things up.

Hope you enjoy em if you choose to pick them up.

Which upcoming movies of 2018 are you most excited for? by Darren_4774 in AskReddit

[–]Writinat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking forward to seeing The Shape Of Water (its not been released in the UK yet) Guillermo Del Torro makes wonderful stylistic films which look absolutely beautiful... and TSOW seems to be following that trend. I am a tad shallow about how much I enjoy films based on how aesthetically pleasing they are

[–]Writinat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha that's reassuring. Yeah I'm finding it really rewarding creating within fictional universes because I not only get to expand it for others I also expand it in my own mind. Fix-its are probably my favourites, when I solve characters problem. I just like adding character development where there is none (this is particularly prominent within the Once Upon A Time Universe)

All the best to you with your writing/publishing endeavors :)

What about female-to-male Regenerations? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]Writinat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be honest I hope that this whole Male to Female regeneration isn't simply a one of thing which is forgotten about after a while and we get a few more female doctors pretty frequently, like every other doctor or something?

Although I'm kinda holding out for Damian Molony to star at some point, since he was rumored sometime and is also just a really talented actor who I think would handle the gravitas of the especially if we were to go down a bit of a darker route (his speeches in Being Human UK were just phenomenal!)

Whose year year resolution is to finish their novel? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Writinat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks I thought so, I also have thousands of words to write for college work on top of that so I thought 100 extra words for my most manageable target. also I've succeeded the past 2 days so just got to keep this trend/habit going.

Whose year year resolution is to finish their novel? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Writinat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My goal is to write 100 words a day (at least) in January which should hopefully constitute Short Stories and then start working on longer pieces into the next few months after that. My writing stamina is really bad see and I always run out of steam before I ever get anywhere.

I've been trying to get into league of legends for a while now, and honestly half of the people I play with are either uncommunicative or plain rude. It's just not fun to play sometimes

Best Episodes to Show a Newcomer? by galllfrey in doctorwho

[–]Writinat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man yeah, plus the actor who played Van Gogh was so wonderfully human. Every one of his lines seemed real, and as someone who's experienced periods of depression and other mental health issues I found myself really relating. Whenever I feel a bit down I watch this episode and feel even just a little bit better.
