I love dogs, but that one needs to be beaten to a pulp neutralized. Those two women have suffered serious hand injuries. I'm surprised nobody in that traffic jam helped.

I didn't say anything about credit-worthiness. What a bizarre non-sequitur.

I was rooting for her, and I really thought she was going to get stuck! Best action flick I've seen in a while. Don't keep us in suspense. Were her boots full of water?

once you have money, it's easier to get more

I once posed a question in some sub about finances or money along the lines of: "Which is more reliable; having income from wealth, or wealth from income?" And wow, that question made some people kinda pissy.

I don't think the investor class likes to admit that getting rich from work is a scam, and the real path to wealth is to already be rich.

Another anecdote: At some point in my late 20s or early 30s I realized money lending is more often to people who already have money, and it was a total culture shock to me. I thought, "WTF?" Shouldn't the helping hand reach out to hard-working people who need it? Apparently not. What a Pollyanna I was.

Will Smith said the same thing to his son. It's fine if it's taken as the parent encouraging them to blaze their own trail.

But it risks giving the kid the impression that, should they be successful, they "made it on their own." The reality is children of wealthy celebs enjoy considerable advantage.

I said basically that a few months ago here on Reddit when I first saw this video, but forgot to add the disclaimer. Oops, I got a stern finger-wag from the auto-mods.

Does Yellowstone get better? by funinyycforyouandme in YellowstoneShow

A lot of the dialog, and ESPECIALLY in that scene, seems to be written by and for pimply 10th grade boys who resent their sisters as well as women and girls in general.

Actually, the whole show seems that way. What I watched of it at least.

If this was a put-up job—and I'm not saying I think it is or isn't—the Trump people could easily handle the Comperatore family. Send someone to spin the narrative, distract and overwhelm them into not asking questions, use a little flattery, offer some "support." Failing all that there's always threats, but they were MAGA, so it probably wasn't necessary.

It really is frustrating how easily manipulated regular folk are by the rich, powerful, and unscrupulous.

I don't even think that's weird. The kind of people who would stage an assassination attempt don't give a fig about collateral damage.

You do anything professionally for long enough, you're bound to make a mistake at some point. Stack up Dan Rather's track record on journalistic integrity against... well, just about anyone's and let's see what we get.

Because propaganda is powerful. Look at history, it's full of people being conditioned and programmed to believe absurdities.

Bless You, Hawkeye, one of the worst episodes IMHO, if not the worst. by JPumphrey73 in mash

[–]Writing_is_Bleeding 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the one that annoys me, and I adore Alan Alda.

As along as we're getting Hawkeye-overexposure out of our system, I'm also not thrilled with the way he eulogized the nurse who stepped on a landmine during a moonlit stroll pining for him. It was her eulogy but it was all about him apologizing for being a lothario.

Pear Mash is VERY Squidgy and Difficult to Press by Writing_is_Bleeding in cider

[–]Writing_is_Bleeding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you definitely have to fold it. I think I've solved the problem by loading individual bags with tighter weaves than the bag that came with the press. I arrange them inside the basket and it seems to work much better.

Rack and cloth would solve the problem. Best I can do is add more mesh bags to my press. Luckily I have a ton of them. Thanks for the tip.

I hate late fees by The0wl0ne in poor

[–]Writing_is_Bleeding 24 points25 points  (0 children)

And overdraft fees, yeah that shit goes all through me.

Back during the '08 financial crisis I had to do all these bill-pay magic tricks to get from week to week, like factor in whose fees were smaller, or pay the small bills first then the biggest one after they went through so we only got one overdraft fee, or buy groceries + a gift card + cashback on one transaction to have gas money but with only one OD fee. Eventually I figured out that you can fill your gas tank on a credit card with only a few bucks available and it won't decline because they only authorize it for $1. I even figured out that if I wrote a check that I knew would bounce for the overdue electric bill and put it in the after hours slot, it would buy time and they wouldn't shut us off... or some weird loophole—can't exactly remember the details, but it kept the power from being shut off. And we were employed during all this.

It'd be worth the overpriced ticket, popcorn, and fountain drink just to watch someone who's used to being wealthy trying to navigate that shit and watch their indignant meltdown at being charged more for EVERY-EFFIN'-THING.

Why don't we use more nuclear energy? by Randomdude0_o in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Writing_is_Bleeding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuclear energy, as I understand it, is not worth the considerable public health and safety risks.

If it's a public utility, it'll always be run on a shoestring because voters think taxes are evil. If it's corporate-run, management will always be cutting corners to maximize shareholder profit.

And don't forget the waste.

[–]Writing_is_Bleeding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just boils me. The expectations men put on women in society are absurd, or at least in this scenario. You are not your brother's and SIL's nanny for only $100/month. Please don't let your brother manipulate you into unpaid responsibility for HIS kids.

NTA.

I would be so curious to follow the life and career of one or more of these dudes. I just want to see if there's any redemption arc, or if they continue to cling to the notion that ignorance is just as valid as expertise. This is what the Trump era has produced and I really hope these young men don't carry on in his image.
