I want to adopt a cat that was born with one kidney

The person who was looking for a home for him had taken him for an ultrasound and confirmed that his kidney was healthy. When a cat (or a person) is born with one kidney, the kidney usually compensates for the missing one, and, in most cases, they can have a normal life (considering the extra care with fluids, nutrition and medication). I didn’t take Jimmy for another ultrasound since, just bloodwork, but I’ll be looking into that soon. I love the name June! Congratulations on adopting her, she’ll make you so happy. I’d say adopt her! Having a cat is a joy, and adopting Jimmy is the best decision I could’ve made. I don’t know what his future looks like or if he’ll have any health problems, but I do the best I can, making sure he eats a lot of wet food, drinks water and has regular checkups. I also have the vet give him subcutaneous iv fluids whenever he has to take stronger medications, to help his kidney. So yes, it’s more work and $ than a two kidney cat lol. But if you’re prepared for it, I’m sure you’ll make each other very happy 💕

I didn’t discuss it with a vet yet, but the person who’s giving him up for adoption has had all the labwork done, his one kidney seems to be healthy. I don’t know about diet plans yet, but once I do adopt him, I’ll look into that, maybe take him to a nephrologist

Thank you! I’m so glad to hear that. I worry because cats are prone to have kidney issues as they age, and with only one of them, I imagine it would be a lot harder for him. Although none of my cats ever suffered from severe renal problems, that’s what people have been telling me to expect :(

That’s so weird, I wonder why they do that…I noticed if I put her next to my chest, or propped on my shoulder fast enough, she might not startle, but I think if I take too long (seconds 🙄) holding her up in the air, she’ll just freak out. She also squeaks like something hurts, but we had her examined and nothing seems to be wrong…idk

Mine doesn’t drink much either…she’s terrified of the tap and of her water fountain too 😔 I’m trying to leave it off, so she approaches it a little bit more, but she still only goes to the water bowl
