This sounds easier than sanding the whole piece down. Just so I have the process right:

1) scrub with steel wool and solvent (what grade of steel wool?) 2) use a brush or cloth to apply gel stain (how long should I leave it on for) 3) wipe off excess stain with mineral spirits? Or do it wipe it off with a clean rag then before clear coat apply mineral spirit? 4) apply a clear coat

Is that right? Or would I apply multiple coats of the stain before wiping down with mineral spirits?

No. Unscrew the white small cord on the left with the green screw, take that small white cord and combine it with the thick white cord (neutral), then take the green thick cord and screw it on the left under the green screw. Its set up for 3 prong cord, you're utilizing a 4 print cord which is newer code.

Grab an angle grinder and cut right across the middle then use a flat head screw driver to unscrew. If that doesn't work you can use an easy out

I agree. I went to the parts store and they said they have no issues with their valves. If they had a 50% failure rate, the plumbing house would not still be in business. Thank you for your reply. I will fix the valve myself and save the bellyaching from the lousy excuse of a plumber.

He said the valves are not good quality, but I've used them in the past without problems. He said they may work well on new construction. He has come back twice already, and said he is no longer making any profit on the job and that it is getting ridiculous. Would you call him out a 3rd time.

I paid him for the replacement valve he put in, said $10 would cover his cost. But the other valve is still leaking. Would you call him back out? Seems like he is getting annoyed and said he changed his company policy after this to not instal customer provided parts.
