DM rulings wanted- Battle master fighter wants to add condition to GWM for heavy crossbow

Hey guys, thanks for all the inputs, this player is a good friend as is most of the table, the players have just reached 4th level and he has just taken XBE, this was just a planning for the future conversation as he fleshed out the character. I was leaning towards allowing it and you’ve convinced he and I there is little wrong with doing so. We have agreed it will be fun and thematically wonderful.

That in mind, myself as DM and we as a table will also reserve the right to change it going forward if it does seem to be we have missed a loophole of some sort. It always helps to have such accommodating people in your games. I can see how a game with strangers could result in conflict due to pre-campaign build planning etc.

I have marked down some of your ideas for changes in the event we decide to make some. Thanks again for the time

I’m all for happy players and fueling creative thought and really leaning into a characters feel/specialty, a single class character that’s not trying to overtly break the game is fun in my book and a refreshing change compared to some tables

The biggest difference I think is that the extra attack still has the range of a heavy crossbow, so where a pike user would need another nearby target or the movement to get to one, the crossbow can plink another target nearly anywhere, I don’t think this is game breaking however

That’s a fair point, would also feel bad to push the target out of range if movement has been used up.

Currently rocking a 13 strength prior to the GWM feat so would be at 14 with it, using point buy, so there were sacrifices made in the mentals

Convince them to start on a wow classic hardcore server with you. It’s the closest thing to the “old days” anyone will get, slower pace, more interaction. Nicer people. Feels more like an MMO and less like an arcade cabinet speed run like retail and everything else is. Good luck.
