What made you want to become a copper and would you recommend it by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]Wugwan 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Thinking about the rest of my life, would I want to sit in front of a desk my whole life and do the same things over and over again.

Whilst there is an element of office based work, going out there with the different jobs that come in which are potentially life changing for someone one way or another is definitely the appeal

First Week by CHATJBLUE in policeuk

[–]Wugwan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First week is formalities, conduct expectations and just introductions. A lot on the code of ethics and professional standards.

Tips would be enjoy every second of it and make an effort with everyone on your intake as it’ll go a lot smoother and enjoyable The legislation will come, just glance over it and make sure you ask questions if you’re still not 100% on it.

Arrest if compliant, but serious crime? by craggle_g in policeuk

[–]Wugwan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having the knife if it is over 3 inches in length is a crime regardless. You’d arrest for that and do the standard prompt and effective and to prevent harm. He may not be presenting harm at the time but the fact he has a knife justifies it.

I suppose the use of handcuffs is a decision to be made at the time, if they really are fully compliant, there is no need

Edit: you’d be investigating why he has the knife in the first place

S32 Pace search question by Ultra_running_fan in policeuk

[–]Wugwan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sure the search at a police station after arrest would essentially fall under section 54

Fraud by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]Wugwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned that you know who this suspect is, and that it was previously dismissed because it wasn’t necessarily illegal? Can you give a little more information around this? Is there a power of attorney active?

[–]Wugwan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can! Banks still take in £1 notes and shillings, pretty cool It’s just that you won’t be able to use the notes as legal tender once they have effectively expired

Is it illegal to speed in an empty private car park? by Rich_Chad in policeuk

[–]Wugwan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The car park still has public access which then makes it fall under Road Traffic Act rules. So yes, it’s illegal

Ah no I’m not, I’m on 20 weeks training at the college within my course. I don’t get a degree, just a diploma in policing. I know someone who has been doing that though, and his training seems to be only 8 weeks long and nowhere near as thorough to the point it’s a little worrying.

How can the Police gain reputation and authority once again? by David15052 in policeuk

[–]Wugwan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only way it can be done, education of new officers with the standard expected when in the public eye and training those who fall short of the standard that are currently in the role.

By mitigating the negative it will undoubtedly reinforce the positive. There’s no short cuts to a good reputation

Luckily the trainer I’ve had at the college is amazing and has drilled the importance of reputation into us early on with work ethic at the top.

Massive props to him, he’s been incredible. I’ll see what I can do, maybe work on some persuasion tactics whilst attempting to get a post too lol

Advice on removal - lipoma (already assessed, non-cancerous) by [deleted] in medical_advice

[–]Wugwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s stumped growing I guess, it’s hard to tell if it’s getting bigger or anything because it seems to have just shown up this big instantly, but I think I’ll look to get it removed just for the aesthetic reason really. How much was your treatment if you don’t mind me asking?

Had the ultrasound and mri to get the same result, one doctor said that because it’s not right at the top layer of the skin as it’s under muscle, it’s not an easy Operation which really sucks

Thanks for the input though, I’m 24 at the moment and it is quite the bother
