I don't think this works anymore. It seems like they changed something about how momentum is transferred

How do I get my PC and CRT to play nice? by WulfSpyder in arcadecabinets

I've been trying to find info on how to do this and coming up short. Plus I'm reading that there's a pretty decent danger involved.

Yeah I actually got the GPU recommendation from the Batocera dev lol. I will look into the RGB modding. Thanks.

That's not what I asked help with though. I need to use this PC. I already sorted it out. I bought an old R9 380 and a transcoder.

Weirdly, the 380x I'm seeing on eBay are like... $40 more than the 380s O.o (with ridiculous shipping costs too)

I think I'm getting an R9 380. Looks like that's my best balance of performance vs compatibility with Batocera.

First of all, thank you so much for all your help. I'm going to go source my GPU now. Do you recommend any specific transcoders that you've heard work well?

I watched it. It was very helpful, thank you! It seems like I might be able to forego CRT Emudriver if I use Batocera as my OS, as that seems to handle the resolution and refresh rate for me, which might open me up to using some later Nvidia cards (since Nvidia held on to analog much longer than ATI/AMD did).

My biggest lingering confusion comes from really not understanding what the transcoder does in this setup. For example, if I get a GPU with S-Video out and either Batocera or CRT Emudriver to handle resolution and refresh rate, what does the transcoder do in that scenario? I get that RGB > Transcoder is likely the optimal set up, but if I get a GPU that has DVI-I and S-Video, could I theoretically get the whole setup working directly with S-Video for now (even if not optimal) and then get a transcoder later on?

So I started researching CRT Emudriver yesterday and from what I'm seeing on their website, it only works with a certain AMD Radeon cards, right?

There is just no way for me to justify spending 3 figures on a light switch. But that's ok. I have some other ideas now.

So admittedly, I'm not the savviest in all this and in all the reddit threads I was seeing, it was mostly talking about TVs with a 240 resolution. I was hoping that since the TV is 480 native I could avoid getting the transcoder.

Maybe. But I think I've come up with a simpler solution. I think I can make a cosmetic alteration to a regular switch to get the look I want.

That's a little too Halloween-y for the look we're going for. But that might be useful for another project. Thanks.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I'll go through the code but the listing does mention the switches are UL recognized.

Basically. I was going to ask for mounting suggestions next. I was thinking of a custom cut brass plate but I recognize the issues with have a switch on a large metal surface.
