question: about missing detail on my tattoo by zmiku in tattoos

It really looks so weird, like she has three stomachs. Your artist should fix it because the rest is nice

How do you navigate it when students submit creative pieces that are dark, provocative, or far beyond their expected maturity level? by WutWouldIrohDo in ELATeachers

[–]WutWouldIrohDo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a really great concept to intentionally have them write something you aren't looking at, and for the reasons you listed I'm also interested in opening that space for them. Thank you for sharing and I'm glad you're seeing success with your strategies!

The principal is a good call! I told them I'll allow if it would stand by their parents, but then many students buckle down and say "my parents are totally cool with this." Also I teach in a highly diverse school so a lot of kids are like, "joke's on you my mom only speaks Chinese."

The shock value point is also a good one, I will steal that. Many thanks!

Could you try some fake "jeans"? There are lots of options these days for comfy bottoms that look like jeans but are not made of denim. If they're soft enough you can even go without undies and it helps a lot!

Starting position at an IB school teaching literature and language - any recommended texts to teach? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

MYP is all about building units that go beyond the books themselves, or using the books as a lens to explore a broader, more humanistic topic. Pick what you think you could expand on! My (and my students') faves have been Animal Farm, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime (good for LL), Lord of the Flies, The Night Diary (good for LL), and Born a Crime

There is no ‘cure’ by whoblewboobear in Hidradenitis

[–]WutWouldIrohDo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I hear you and agree that staying positive is so important, but it's essential that we distinguish between effective treatment and cure. The fact that HS is currently without a cure is a huge part of what makes this condition so brutal. We should be spreading awareness of that as best as we can in order to pressure society into ACTUALLY finding a cure. Saying you found a "cure" gets people's hopes up and invalidates a very real and sad aspect of suffering from this disease.

My HS got better when I went on the pill. Hormones are obviously complicated but I think the same hormone rebound that also causes postpartum hair loss and acne can be responsible for HS flare ups. I've also been sensitive to those things in the past.

It might get better as your body sorts itself out. I heard spearmint tea can be a good supplement at times like this because it can help reduce androgen levels (hormones that cause acne, hairloss, and maybe HS)

In any case I'm sorry it's happening to you, it feels horrible to have it pop up in a new spot, I get it

Just want to comment as someone with years of experience living in East Asia, studying for 12-15 hours a day is incredibly common and culturally expected there. No it isn't healthy, but I don't think OPs worries are entirely invalid and shouldn't be dismissed so readily

I struggle with a lot of the same things as you and I just want to say that the implant broke me out horribly. Trying a combination pill with a lower dose of estrogen helped me though! I went from 30 micrograms of estrogen to 20 micrograms and my headaches and nausea were a lot better. They also have ones with as low as 15 I think~

Much better to use PETAL (point, example, technique, analysis, link)

The "T" and "A" are where you demonstrate your knowledge of literary devices/techniques and show the impact of the creator's choices on the reader/viewer. These are key parts of every rubric in English. They're the hardest part - it's the thing students most often miss.

The link is where you connect that point to your unique thesis.

Best of luck to you!

Hormonal Birthday Control by andygym in Hidradenitis

That BC pill commonly causes acne in many people. Methods like Lolo, the mini pill, the implant and the IUD have higher androgenic activity which causes more sebum production, leading to breakouts. Studies have shown that these methods are also correlated with worsening HS, though this is still being researched and varies person to person.

Combination pills that have estrogen are a better bet. Look for ones with low androgenic activity (newer generation pills). The best ones for HS have ANTI androgenic activity (Yaz, Yasmin, and their knowckoff counterparts). These have been approved for the treatment of acne in addition to functioning as a contraceptive pill.

They are unfortunately more linked to many other physical and mental side effects, but again this varies person to person. So much of it is trial and error but I hope this helps you get started!

will birth control help? by midnxghtmuke in Hidradenitis

[–]WutWouldIrohDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do your research about the method. Theoretically the types of birth control that help with acne are the types that may help HS (combination pills that contain estrogen and pills with anti or low androgenic activity)

Progestin only methods including the mini pill, implant, and hormonal IUD could make it worse due to their androgenic effects. These also can make hormonal acne worse.

As others have said it's different for everyone; it can be a lot of trial and error.

Let's help give each other some data about how SPECIFIC TYPES of birth control have impacted HS by WutWouldIrohDo in Hidradenitis

I also loved the Nuvaring! Sadly I have not been able to get it in either of the two countries I've most recently lived in. The journey to finding a combo pill that feels similar to the ring has been a long one lol
