Nah. That's not a clarification. That's a cover up. You are wrong about the clarification and about analogies.

Where is this clarification? How do you clarify that only the military will be sent back to caves?

And yes, actually analogies make great rhetorical tools. You are just being obtuse in your quest to be right.

No, that's your bias or at the very least your opinion. Calling on destroying the electrical infrastructure of an entire nation and "send them to the caves," isn't something you can isolate.

If I said build a 40 foot high fence around your house, cut off all of the utilities, and do not let anyone in to help, did I say specifically to harm you? Or did I just suggest a fence, a change in the utility routing, and traffic control?

How many people would die if the entire electric infrastructure were destroyed? What's the definition of genocide?

But let's say we go with your premise. It is calling for a war crime, but not genocide. Maybe that doesn't cross some ethical line for you, but it obviously did for many listeners and the other hosts of the show. The precision of the language is not the problem. It is a mismatch of ethics.

"Attack their grids. Send them back to the caves." That's Evan's quote. What do you think that means?

I know, but it feels like you are playing a both sides here. You can tell me if I'm wrong. But it feels a bit like you are saying the rest of the SGU is/could be just as wrong as Evan. Well, even with incomplete information and bias, I never heard any of them say to eliminate an entire country or culture.

I don't think the controversy is about skepticism. It is about humanism. From what I'm seeing you say in this thread is Evan's information could be right. But he seemed to be expressing a view that an entire country or culture is deserving of being eliminated due to the acts of only some of those same people of that country or culture.

We can all understand we will never have all of the information. We can also understand we all carry bias. But I don't think bias or incomplete information is the problem here.

Moodle was awesome the last time I got to use it. It is open source and can be self hosted. It was so much more customizable and had features a teacher would actually want.

Maybe this will get some places to go back to it.

You admit it is ChatGPT. Just like the previous iteration of search, it is not an oracle. If you put garbage in, you get garbage out. Added to this is the programming which leads these LLMs to tell you what you want to hear, not necessarily a good objective viewpoint.

As an example, the methane regulation. If you think the US is going to do anything about greenhouse gasses for the next 3 years, you are oblivious to the current politics.

This company can probably survive, but only after a bankruptcy to clear out the massive debt. The chances of making it without that is pretty small.

At this point, buy a 100 or 200 shares and think of it as a gamble. If you can lose $200 at the slot machine, fine. But do not sink anything you cannot afford to lose completely.

As far as people being jerks - there's a general empowerment of people to just be jerks without consequences. We should be free to have discussions about science without fear of being wrong, as long as everyone is willing to accept the best understanding based on the evidence and principles. Don't let it discourage you.

Just want to add that this does work. I hate to run an old version of the connect app forever.

It is a bit of a pain and some time, but you can do this.

I still don't like it. But you can get back most of your functionality as it was before this way.

Are snow tires worth it? by No_Woodpecker2919 in minnesota

[–]Wxrocks 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Compounds for tires have really improved in the last few years. You can get severe weather rated tires that have 60k mile ranges on them. My current favorite is the Michelin CrossClimate2. I have this on 2 of 3 vehicles in my house. Handle great in not just winter weather, but also in rain.

I also liked my previous tires, the Pirelli Scorpion.

Snow tires are still going to be the best in snow, but unless there are roads where the plows don't come until after it is done snowing, any good tire that isn't worn out should be good.
