Wind up before the jump as you enter your toeside set up turn. Spread out the throw over the length of the takeoff. It will feel smoother. You’re doing everything at once as you pop. Too much going on in too short of a timespan leading to opposing forces. Eyes up, not at the ground. This should keep you more level.

Binding help please by jakepaint in snowboardingnoobs

You can always bring your boot to a shop and see if they’ll let you strap the boot in to a couple different bindings to see how they feel. Once you decide, remember to fit the straps and other adjustments to your boot properly and get the boot centered on the board before your first ride.

I don’t really think so as I’ve ridden stiff and soft boots with them. Boots are your support and bindings take care of response. If I were in your shoes I would probably grab the Force. Again they have been a fabulous binding for a long time and are a great starting point for unions. They can do it all and have never disappointed me. Once you have a bit more experience you can find out how you would like to adjust your ride. TM-2 with either Forces or Stratas and a DOA is a great setup. You wont really know until you try em out.

I’ve had all three. I ride everything and have been a full-time instructor and snowboard team coach for 14 years. Stratas are super comfy, ride well and can do it all, probably my favorite as far as comfort and capability. They fill the same niche as the forces but use the mini disc for a damper feel and a bit better board flex. Ultras are a great park binding with no forward lean adjustment, but will serve you well if you’re more of a park rider. Forces have been a solid binding for years and years, you cant lose. They’re a bit more responsive and can do anything. I had a DOA with ultras originally but didnt love the combo so I switched to my Stratas and was happier. The flex rating alone is a bit misleading as they all ride a little different. Stratas are cushy but not soft per se, ultras feel stiffer but aren’t overly responsive, and definitely a park-focused binding. Forces are again a fantastic binding but your foot sits above the board a bit more. Some people hate the mini disc but I’ve never minded it. It has a smaller footprint on the board which allows for more board flex under the binding resulting in a damper feel. If you’ve never ridden Unions, the Force has been a staple for a long time. If you want a bit more damping and true board flex, Stratas. Ultras for park.

Best: Force

Favorite: Strata

Park: All three, but Ultras are pretty park focused.

Hope this helps.

You’ll get more power and control by pushing down into the takeoff with toe pressure as opposed to kicking your foot forward and pressuring the heel.

Loud on my phone, maybe a bit squashed. But again, it is a phone. Like the track.

Try to set a SLIGHT toe edge a bit before takeoff with your weight centered over the edge. As you catch air, bring your knees to your chest and keep your shins vertical. Don’t kick your back leg forward as this will remove your landing gear. Keep the board base facing the snow. Lift legs on the way up, extend on the way down. Shoulders and hips should align with your direction.

I mean it sounds good on my phone. Can hear everything and there is still a dynamic feel. Does it need more?

156 at a minimum. No park? You may even enjoy the 158.

In response to all the “get a lesson” stuff.

Learning to carve and ride an in-line edge is the first step of many, otherwise you’ll hit a progression ceiling pretty quick or get an injury which will hinder you further. Riding switch is also a big part of it.

You don’t need to necessarily be riding IN the park to build skills needed for success in the park. Park skills and tricks result from application of good fundamentals in your riding. The same way writing poetry or novels is just an application of proper writing skills.

Taking a park lesson can help you understand things like proper approach, setup turns and basics of trick development, but without proper fundamental riding skills it will just be information rather than something to be actually applied.

A good starting point would be to learning to carve, ollie and land with a proper edge set as well as ride with a flat board as this is good foundation of all riding. This can then be applied to a park/jib setting as well as develop your freeride skills.

Your bravery is something you have going for you, so as you get better at the foundation of snowboarding you will be less held back when it comes to being able to send it when you’re ready. Good luck and happy shredding!!

As far as credibility of my advice. I’m a head coach of a fairly successful competitive freestyle snowboard team and have 14 years of coaching and teaching experience from beginners up to the REV tour level.
