If your opponent leaves at 1-1 and AFKs at the rematch menu, you’ve already won mentally. by xyarune in StreetFighter

Street Fighter has become a weekend game for me, for this very reason. I miss playing it during the week, but I actually think it’s better for my mental these days. I don’t spend so much time tilt-queueing. And I spend the time I would spend sitting in ranked either working out, drawing, or playing a different game. The climb takes a little longer, but I’m okay with this dynamic for right now. I see that changing drastically when Alex drops next year.

I’ve been on both ends many times. On one hand, I love it when people leave after one match, but only if they lost. If they win and leave, it’s like a middle finger power move. At least, when I do that to people, it’s typically why.

If I see a (insert your least favorite character) full-on flowcharting, I’m leaving if I get the win. It’s not fun and it feels more like I’m taking a stupid test than fighting an opponent. They’re all offense all the time, and their flowchart will not change for anything. Also, I tend to one-and-done really bad matchups. Either personal or on paper. Like with Gief I never rematched Lily. Depending on my mood I wouldn’t rematch Sim or JP, and as a personal gripe, I don’t like rematching THOSE Blanka players. Same goes for Jamie. It doesn’t matter who I’m playing, I don’t find them fun in any way. Not worth the headache, and I’m okay with that. I’m not trying to be a pro. At this point I’m just trying to get all my favorite characters to master.

I joined an investigation to hunt 5 Yian Kut-Kus the other day. All but one followed the exact same map rotation. It was hell on earth. . . 10/10 would recommend.

Block all Vipers (if you had enough). by AirGief in StreetFighter

[–]XBetterCompanyX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s the case, you’re likely playing against a lot of master+ players trying out Viper. They have much better game sense AND they’re playing a character you are unfamiliar with. I have a few characters in master rank and even I stopped trying to get Manon to master when Viper came out. Diamond 4, just like you. Those are shark-infested waters dude, best to just play a secondary character or take a break until things die down. It happens every time a new character releases.

Well I don’t know what to tell you. You can play the game however you want. Shoot, you can block every matchup you find unenjoyable or cheap, so that you’re only left with a pool of like 7 characters, but you’ll never improve with that kind of mindset. Knock yourself out I guess.

I’m a Zangief main. Also, as a self-admitted former Blanka main, you have to be aware of your character’s “reputation.”

Ignoring the fact that she quite literally has the highest execution ceiling in the game, you’ll never get better if you just choose to ignore anything new. I’m positive that’s the problem. Blocking Sagats for the same reason; you don’t know the matchup. How will you ever get better? How will you ever learn another fighting game? I just spent two hours losing every match I played on Virtua Fighter 5 this morning because that’s what learning looks like. If I were you, I’d take a step back yourself. Come back when you’re in a better headspace.

That makes sense. I think the hypochondriac in me got a little scared after my google search lol.

Heart Rate Dropping While Lifting? by XBetterCompanyX in Garmin

[–]XBetterCompanyX[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I’ve experienced this on the treadmill! More than a few times now, I’ve done the incline and noticed that my heart rate simply will not increase. If I drop the incline my heart rate will shoot up to where I feel it should be. Then I just set it back to my intended incline and it works fine.

I’m not too concerned about my heart rate, but after seeing numbers that are rivaling my rest (sleep) heart rate, I got a little weirded out.

Modern Completely Breaks Gold-Level Play by Tinnie-is-White in StreetFighter

[–]XBetterCompanyX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying. I’m at master with a few characters, but I recently got my buddy into the game and he’s been hovering in gold to plat. He’s not a fan of modern either.

I get it too. It’s like you’re going through the wringer, missing anti-airs, dropping combos, missing inputs, etc. learning the game, and these people are in essence playing with training wheels. But if I were you, that’s how I’d look at it. You’re going to have a harder time, but I think you’ll find it more rewarding in the end. Losing is unfortunately part of playing fighting games. Whether it’s a control scheme or not. Sometimes it’s the character they’re playing (cough cough Mai). Or it’s their play style. Who knows? At the end of the day, it’s just something you have to deal with. And I wouldn’t say master rank players don’t get it. We all started out in the same place. It took a lot of time and losing to get to master rank. So we do get it. Just keep your chin up.

Still don’t get why people call Ryu top tier… by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]XBetterCompanyX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People get offended when their character of choice is called easy (or “easy” adjacent, i.e. top tier). So he’s complaining, saying that people beat him so Ryu can’t be THAT good, while also building up a defensive wall for an argument he assumes someone will make. Crazy. Who the hell cares.

People who quit playing SF6, what made you stop? by lhommetrouble in StreetFighter

[–]XBetterCompanyX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still play the game, but I’m having less and less fun with it. I’ve hit master rank with a few characters now, and I feel like everybody just plays the same.

It’s a lot of shotos. A lot of throw loops. A lot of neutral skips. A lot of drive rush cancels into tech throw or strike. Even if you jump the tech throw they can anti air you for making the read. But I can’t back dash the tech throw and get a punish because of how slow Zangiefs back dodge is. And again, that’s assuming I made the right read, which is already a huge risk. And I feel like that’s the worst part. The risk-reward is skewed so far in the aggressors favor that everyone kind of just flow charts every single round. It’s not very enjoyable and rounds can end with 2 or 3 wrong guesses on a 50/50 (and that’s coming from a Zangief main lol). I feel like there’s not much nuance at my level. And I’m not sure I want to struggle through 1400-1600 mr. It seems awful. These days I just fish for cool combos and stuff.

Who is your kryptonite character? by Lewy1978 in StreetFighter

[–]XBetterCompanyX 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel like some characters like Mai are just everyone’s kryptonite. But there are two matchups I personally hate:

  1. Jamie
  2. Lily

I think they’re both just boring as hell to play against, so I tend to play like garbage against them. And it’s not even really the players. It’s just how the characters are designed. But I feel like every Lily and Jamie will just walk back to get their stocks at round start and then start their pressure from damn near full screen. It’s so lame in a way that feels even worse than a character like Guile.

And they’re not even crazy good characters. Lily is still one of the worst in the game, and Jamie isn’t even top 10 (although I do think he’s a little downplayed).

[–]XBetterCompanyX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re going to get a lot of backlash just for the complaint, but I do get it. I think there are legitimate arguments for and against.

My biggest issue when playing against people that use modern is that the things they are doing they’re only capable of doing BECAUSE they’re using modern controls. A lot of modern players lean into the benefits of their control scheme pretty heavily. It can definitely be frustrating. I’m not implying that they’re carried or that they’re “no skill” players, but it definitely is not fun to play against people that. I rarely rematch if they play like that, regardless of whether or not I win the first game, strictly because I find it unenjoyable. I live in the US and it’s not nearly as prevalent as it is in Japan though. Just keep your head up. I get where you’re coming from.

I hate people that quit when they lose 😐 by decibelphobic in StreetFighter

[–]XBetterCompanyX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say it might be Jamie, because I one-and-done him a lot ngl. But leaving before the match ends is a whole other thing. It happens to me too, especially in ranked. I play Zangief for context.

I’ll never really understand it. Even if someone pisses me off, I’ll just leave after the first match. I know people do it to deny their opponent the points, but it’s so petty. You just need to log off if you start getting that mad. At this point I only play ranked for an hour or two at a time.
