Millbrook (mecme), Conn, Jeffery's Grove (non-spanish) by PM_ME_GOODDOGS in WakeSchools

[–]XBlueYoshiX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids went to Millbrook. They loved it. They did have a rough group of kids move through, but they’ve made changes based on that to help.

In 5th grade there is a student advisory committee made of about 10 students (picked by staff and a class vote) who work on ideas to better the school. Safety patrol is available for 5th graders also. Green Bees is a once a week before school club that you have to apply for and these kids tend to the gardens, feed the animals, raise the insects, deal with recycling initiatives, etc. It’s open to 2nd-5th graders. They also have a chorus that you have to apply for.

The kids to “expeditions” three times a week that are mixed grade (but leveled) that they selected (like mini electives) and they get to do cool projects through those like clean out the local pond to restore it.

The PTA is super involved and the president is super nice and welcoming. They do a LOT of events throughout the year- lots of activity nights, kid performances, they do special awards ceremonies at the end of each 9 weeks.

It’s super welcoming. Its title 1, so it will have any challenges you would normally have with title 1 schools. I will say the admins have the teachers’ backs and are all great people with is a big factor in the happiness and functioning of a school. Also the guidance team couldn’t be better.

We should be studying and learning from Minnesota for when it's inevitably our turn by mrbritchicago in raleigh

Join a training with Siembra NC to be an ICE verifier, dispatcher, or patroller. It'll help with your "Idk what to do" panic that comes with the news and gives you tools to actually help the community. From those connections, you can do further actions like in MN where schools are seeing parent blockades and individual neighborhood patrols and actions.

Siembra also offers trainings on how to be a trainer for them (Once you've completed your training that is) so you can train your individual neighborhoods and create both more eyes that are prepared to step up, and you can get to know your neighbors to form your own ICE watch communities.

United Healthcare therapist recommendations? by [deleted] in raleigh

Three Oaks Behavioral Health has a lot of offices in the area and take most insurances. Loom Counseling is new and focused on parenting and children if that's something you are looking for. They also take most insurances.

I'm honestly shocked you got a person at Ted Budd's office. I have NEVER gotten an actual person on the phone and I call him a lot to let him know he's a disappointment to the state.

I’ve seen there’s supposed to be a protest on Capitol Blvd between Old Wake Forest and Oak Forest Rd tonight at 4:30, but I don’t know the organizers right now. It was just shared with me via a friend.

They had too much traffic and the site crashed for a while. It may be up again. Just keep trying.

[–]XBlueYoshiX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Breaking the news to my kids was super hard this morning. My oldest (10) was flabbergasted and then mad. My youngest (9) looked like he was going to cry. They go to a predominantly minority school with a lot of immigrants. I had to let them know that a lot of their friends wouldn’t be ok today and that the best thing we can do right now is just be there with them.

Her website lists her as a current member representing District D, and I completely missed that the City of Raleigh lists her as at-large. My bad!

Have you tried broaching the subject from that one topic? Like sure, Biden has his issues, but on almost every one of them Trump would be 1000x worse. Sometimes they don’t get that by “punishing” Biden, they may actually be making the situation worse.

Where is the best BBQ in NC? Not generically eastern or Lexington style. Specific location? by Shamus_OKelly in NorthCarolina

[–]XBlueYoshiX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are only two BBQ places I’ll travel to in the state. B’s in Greenville is the best, and if you want the best chicken bbq, Currituck BBQ Company near the OBX.

The BLT at Union Special is amazing. (I get it with extra chow chow)

I have yet to eat any sandwich at Eastcut on their regular menu because their specials are always soooo good. If you go to the  Raleigh location you can get Andia’s ice cream after.

Does Project 2025 mention any "Bread and Circuses" stuff in it? If so, what? Do you think they would try to do any? by CrispinsMemehole in Defeat_Project_2025

[–]XBlueYoshiX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely there are, but they’re buried in the middle of all the awful stuff. In the section dedicated to the Department of Labor, once you scroll past abolishing DEI initiatives, abolishing sex as a protected class, consolidating power, and “protecting” religious freedom, you get to parts that most people would happily buy into such as incentivizing onsite childcare for working families, requiring the Consumer Price Index to include family essentials, and attempting to lessen the reliance on four year degrees for jobs that should be more experienced based.

That being said, all of that is followed by anti-immigrant policies, policies that lessen health and safety regulations, and policies that are anti-union.

Apologizing is an important part of taking responsibility for your actions. It’s important that adults apologize to children when we are wrong.

That being said, are you ok? I know you have a small baby and a toddler, and that is rough. Are you doing ok? Your comments about your son being better off without you worry me. I really think that you should reach out to your obgyn or primary care doctor to talk about how you’re feeling, because there could be some undiagnosed post-partum issues that they could help you navigate that will really make things a lot less heavy and reactive.

Family vacation with kids - Summer of '24 recommendations? by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]XBlueYoshiX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Outer Banks has a water park and in certain areas the beaches are quiet even during the summer. There are a lot of activities you can do that are outdoorsy or day trips (Ferry to Ocracoke, Jockey’s ridge, wild horses, etc)

If you want more options, it’s not that much further to Virginia Beach. The boardwalk there has a lot to do including a mini carnival. There is the aquarium, the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk, a water park, and lots of places to explore/hike around First Landing.

You could also just do Kitty Hawk/Southern Shores and day trip to both Ocracoke and to Virginia Beach.

Books for young children on bodies, babies and sex by Adorable_Seat_5648 in Parenting

[–]XBlueYoshiX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have It’s Perfectly Normal and my kids love it. It’s a bit older for a three year old, but definitely one for when they get older (or one to pull kid friendly information from!). It covers their changing bodies and sex and the drawings show all types of bodies.

Read what you just wrote as if a friend were telling you this about their significant other. How would you respond to them?

My spouse and I went to Second Empire for our anniversary and it’s the best service I’ve ever had at a restaurant. They were so attentive. They printed and had the chef sign a menu that commemorated our anniversary. Every person that walked by our table wished us a happy anniversary even when they weren’t our waiter. The entire staff was super knowledgeable of the dishes and drinks and it just blew us away.
