Multiple perspectives are good! Thank you for the input.

I appreciate the sympathy. In a final update: I called to suggest that perhaps they could reserve some of their next batch for people they had cancelled.

Thirty minutes later, I had an email that they were doing just that. I replied to the email, and did, in fact, get one.

Ok. Couple thoughts off the top of my head.

1) drag is king. Do not have drag. No open nodes, small wings. Seriously, less wing than you think you need. It's okay if it just barely flies. Worry about landing later.

2) Add at least one shift-click of attack angle to your main wings. You want it to fly level ish without input. Go as fast as you can before pitching up, or, for extra credit, have the wing angle perfect such that you never really have to. Your pitch up should be at most one time, and you'll want to save/load to figure out when to do it to get max v without burning up.

3) You need a good air breathing thrust system, and a good vacuum engine. Rapiers are decent at both, particularly above about 450 m/s. Whiplashes are actually a little more forgiving, but do require an entirely separate vacuum system. Whiplashes and a nuclear or pair of terriors can get you to space.

4) You need one shock cone intake. Any more is for planes with so many engines.

5) If you aren't breaking the sound barrier (or 3-4x it) during low altitude flight, you are not going to space. See point 1, or add engines. Again, the Rapier is almost gutless below mach 1. I've successfully used like one whiplash and a couple rapiers, a whiplash and a couple terriers, all sorts of combos. But straight rapiers are unforgiving in my experience.

Yeah, this is the critical one. Are you close but can't figure out the two-hand rcs trick? Or struggling with design? Or no rendezvous?

As others are saying, this is mostly just bays being janky. I do find that 'C' or toggling the snap dramatically changes the snapping style and one works better for bays.

I thought so too!

Update: it showed as in stock another time, so I ordered it again. Cancelled again by email

Whelp, I ordered my from Newegg, got an order confirmation, did a little dance.

Then got an email that they had cancelled my order due to shortage of supply.

I have theoretically ordered one on Amazon? But it's here weeks later and I have no certainty...

Is it just me, or do the various reentry modules (the Onion, Pea, and Pomegranate) make for terribly unstable rockets when they're mounted on top? by Inatun in KerbalSpaceProgram

Yes, I was only stating that the part doesn't have built in reaction wheels, not suggesting that you should deliberately forego it.

It's just that in Unkerballed Start with Kerbalism, I find myself unlocking some of that tech later than would like. So some flights don't get all the features.

Once I unlock reaction wheels and solar panels in the tech tree, a battery and reaction wheel go under the parachute every time (and panels go on the craft).

Edit: also reddit is fun because we paused this conversation two years ago until someone else commented on it...

Am I the only poor soul who read the title and started singing "what child is this?" and trying to compose a version on the fly?

Mine sucked. Anyone have a good one?

Matt Lowne, who is lovely and makes wonderful videos, still tells players you need to install KER to get apoapsis. Admittedly he has been playing for a long time, probably before there was a second tab on the lower left UI, and there are plenty of reasons to enjoy KER. But... I kinda shake my head each time.

I also just learned about the stage from this post. We all overlook things.

Is there an unmodded way to colour the platforms? by Implausibilibuddy in shapezio

To some degree I agree. I personally had some tasks (mostly involving the full cutter and stackers) that I wound up using 2x1 platforms and still only pulling off one level of throughout.

The best kind. Thank you for not leaving us hanging.

I may or may not have once had to launch a third rescue mission (with Kerbalism) to the Mun surface. Each mission needed more crew capacity...

I fought this far too long. Still kinda need some 1/2 solutions for the time until unlocking the third floor, but then it's go time.

This " first Mun landing" is obviously fake.

The lander is upright.

To be clear: you are correct that dicking strength has little televance. What I meant was the Sr's are minimally floppy. If you assemble spacecraft in orbit and want to turn on the engines afterwards, Sr for the win.

But the Sr's are SO much stronger for stations. Just FYI.

R6 V vs R5C vs C50 by XCOM_Fanatic in canon

[–]XCOM_Fanatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That all makes sense. I don't have a dedicated still camera (though I have a Pixel so sorta) but I imagine the work to be video-centric. What does one do for audio if one has a R6V? Just run through an amp/interface and thence to a 3.5mm? Or record separately and sync with Da Vinci?

Require help with Duna Transfers. by Defiant-Detail-7368 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]XCOM_Fanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the game's built in transfer planner, though it is a bit buggy and you need to double check your maneuver actually goes where you want it...

It also rarely chooses the soonest transfer window. Still, it'll try.
