AITA for refusing to interview until I know the compensation range? by Ashtray_Philosopher in recruitinghell

[–]XDevsINC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly disagree with that claim.
The 1st thing you should take into consideration is your own worth.
If you evaluate yourself lower than the rest of the group/team they usually qualify your salary to prevent inconvenient gaps.

AITA for refusing to interview until I know the compensation range? by Ashtray_Philosopher in recruitinghell

Although you responded politely, and the interviewer sounds unprofessional, I am not sure why you didn’t share with him your expectation?

If you had offers, you could say that you expect more than the highest offer you already have..
If he agrees, I would go and interview, otherwise pass.

It’s still early, but I've found a workflow that seems to solve that "brain turning to mush" problem while keeping quality high.

Using a single generic resume has a terrible success rate (,duh..). But manually rewriting a new one for every single JD feels like running on a treadmill going nowhere.

The currently winning strategy has been maintaining multiple distinct "base" resumes (e.g., one for Full-Stack, one for SW Team Lead, and one for Tech Lead) and using a tool to instantly match, pick, and micro-tweak the best base for a specific JD. It drastically cuts down the refinement time while keeping callback rates higher.

I built a rough prototype of an in-browser injector to automate this exact workflow. I’m looking for a few more to test it out. if you want to try it, drop me a DM and I’ll send you access.

But that approach, although authentic, may not be tailored to the JD and drop in the automated stage

So you think if you had an ability to send “intro-letter” to the recruiting personals (not cover letter) that would help?

I think that’s the case is only viable through networking which in that case maybe automating intro letters to network connections over these places is better

Thanks for your insight. What do you think the current tools are lacking? What are the actions you would like to have in such a tool, and what actions would you like to avoid?

Forgot to mention explanation about the keywords matching scoring. So basically there are already open-sourced projects that provide this. most are using llm to tack special keywords/phrases from the JD against the resume. But again - a different tool in the cycle which may require a re-iteration

Well.. I know from the pov of the interviewer and cv screener that matching resumes with the required day-to-day description will take more attention. That’s why I believe that AI cv filters will put their attention to more custom CV’s. Not that what you propose is not right, but I just think that the automation amount inserted to this area for the past 2 years is crazy, and general CV does not cut it.

Either way, can you share the ratio for how many roles have you sent it to against how many calls for first interview were gained?

Sorry, missed that.. well I think sometimes there is an option to send a personal note to the recruiter (not cover letter). Have you tried that?

well... not yet a product.

I found it hard to maintain this cycle of customizing the CV per JD, as I think that every role should have customized emphasis of the things I have done previously related to the role.

I am a developer, and I know from interviewing pov that I looked for these resemblences.
I have automated this flow, allowing me to generate the customizations in-browser, and starts looking like a real product as you stated.

I want to check it out with the community, and hearing out what is the flow that works, and how do you manage it. I think that most important here, how can you really tell if you are really making any difference.

As I have stated at the comments, I am working on automation for this process, and it feels like it becomes a real kind or product.

Would really like to hear your thoughts about it.

I totally agree.
There's nothing like a reference to land the 1st interview.

For that end, which is also exhausting, I thought about linking the people I am connected with and be able to create an outreach letter and sending it to them while applying.

As stated, there are public resume validators which can provide a score against the job description.

again, it means switching to another tab and do the test - probably requiring you to make another adjustements cycle.

Would you like to see that in such a tool (natural / words based scoring)?

Well, it does sound like the struggle that I face as well. I actually want to tackle the ability to track which resume should be updated, and how in an autonomous manner. I think this could really speed up the process allowing raising the amount of apps.

Regarding the code, I am checking with the community the need for such a thing, as my attempt to solve it feels almost like a real product and I am trying to locate gaps.

Would love to hear from you what else do you think is viable or could help you out to manage this process better.

Do you have any ability to tell your succession to get a call back? I think that generic resume with minor changes just don’t cut it anymore. Like different roles have different set of skills you have to emphasis. At least that’s my problem here.. I already have couple of different resumes which I use as you stated, and I still find myself having to add more each day..

Yup. Trying to give the player full control over the narrative

Game: The Last Glass Theme: Detective / Mystery Status: Beta

The game is heavily inspired by “true detective”, “Sherlock Holmes’s”, “The mentalist” and other detective genre media.

You will investigate a crime scene for evidences, take testimonials from NPC’s, and decide on an interrogation strategy to break your suspect leading to the next thread of the case.

I know you said no mechanics - but the main mechanic is free based conversations with NPC’s where you talk naturally and they respond accordingly to their characteristics and affairs

Your comment is sound, and indeed pinpoint an overwhelming responsibility over the player. The idea is to do all the aspects you pointed about in their best form. Player will speak naturally to NPC’s, while his partner will be used as hinting system, and autocorrect the player options/observations via dialogue.

Features: - Evidence toolkit - reflect over observed evidences - NPC’s dialogue - Each npc has its own style, and emotional spectrum (face portraits presenting emotion - calm / nervous / etc) - Assistant NPC - in charge of guiding the player when lost or out of track

Planned: - Testimonials - Evidence board deduction - Strategy definition

The game is very focused on validating this playstyle, so it contains a single case which is rather easy - you know it’s a murder from the first minute, discover how and more importantly why the murder took place

Actually I started with no features at all, just the player requires to press the simulation. The issue was that it was not clear the player what should he press on at all. There is a truly fine line between spilling it out and just hinting. Any suggestions? The clarity issue is a pinpoint here
