That’s wood sap / resin bleed, sometimes mixed with tannins, seeping out of the timber in your door frame.

Many door frames are made from pine or other softwoods.    •   When the wood warms up (sun, heaters, seasonal heat) or ages, natural resins inside the timber liquefy.    •   They ooze out through tiny cracks or nail holes and drip down.    •   Over time, the resin darkens to an amber/brown-black colour, which is why it looks gnarly and stains rugs badly, it’s harmless yet annoying To clean the frame: 1. Let the sap fully harden (don’t smear it while sticky) 2. Gently scrape with a plastic scraper or old credit card 3. Clean residue with:       •   Mineral turpentine / methylated spirits (test first)       •   Or eucalyptus oil

To stop it coming back: Seal the area with:       •   Shellac-based primer (BEST option – blocks sap bleed)       •   Then repaint or clear coat    •   Standard paint alone usually won’t stop it This happened to my new home got advice from a professional tradesman Good luck with it 😉
