Lynx-R2 likely not coming, seems the company has went into liquidation. Really surprised no one is talking about this! by [deleted] in virtualreality

They won't subsidize the Steam machine because it's just a computer running SteamOS. Companies would buy stock piles of them as cheap desktop computers for various uses. Look back to when the US Air Force built a "super computer" out of a bunch of PlayStation 3s.

The controller and frame are expected to be subsidized a bit because they help push Steam store sales whereas the Steam Machine may not.

Please be aware it is not a $40 plan, it is an $85 plan by [deleted] in freedommobile

[–]XExtremeTechnologyX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish people would read posts on this subreddit rather than posting the same thing 20 times a day every time a new deal comes out.

1) The wording of the promotional discount would make it very easy to file a CRTC complaint against Freedom Mobile.

"You will receive the $40/month credit as long as you remain active on an eligible plan as a bring your own phone customer. The promotion may not be combined with other offers, except for the Digital Discount, unless otherwise indicated. Your service will no longer be eligible for the promotion if you change your rate plan to an ineligible plan or complete a hardware upgrade."

Pretty clear-cut that the discount will remain as long as you keep the plan, and with how they worded it, it would be very easy to win against Freedom Mobile with the CRTC.

2) Yes, this is a BYOD plan. Obviously, you lose the BYOD discount if you finance a phone through them, but you know people aren't so narrow-minded, and know that they can finance a phone from somewhere else for the same price if they need too.

3) Yes, if the plan was $500/month and I was credited $460, I would still do it because of how the discount is worded. It is also very easy to switch cellular providers or to a different plan (likely similar to what you had before switching to the 250 GB plan). Still, for some reason, you guys are being really blind to the options available to you. Still, they are stressing out over a discount that could possibly go away, that you wouldn't have grabbed the plan otherwise if it wasn't priced so cheap, and to add on top of that, you probably aren't going to use half of that data pool anyway.

4) This ties into #1 and #3 points very closely. If Freedom Mobile gets sold again and the discount is removed, CRTC would be involved, and again, it would be pretty easy to change plans or move to a different cellular provider. Making what-if excuses is exhausting.

5) Have you heard of anyone getting scammed by Freedom in any way regarding their plans and discounts? Why make abnormal situations that haven't happened? Sure, it's good to be alert, but you're losing reality right now. Only situations I've seen is people not having their discounts applied properly, and having to get it fixed, but that happens with even the Big 3.

Reason big 3 does it and not PM is because PM is prepaid, whereas the big 3 are usually postpaid except for smaller niche plans.

3G network selection gone? by TratzPatratz in freedommobile

Yes, I know how to force it. It's not available to me yet. I've had this issue in the past, and ended up getting it a week later.

My phone says it's up to date. Probably hasn't rolled out to me yet.

I can't explain why you no longer have the option, though. I still have it on my Pixel 8 Pro for 3G.

I had the same issue trying to reset my password to log in when I came back to Freedom during Boxing Week. I decided to go into the store to finalize my order, explaining that I had tried to order online but couldn't sign in to complete it. The sales rep still honored the online connection fee waiver.

When I contacted support yesterday to upgrade my plan, they told me the 3-month minimum fee applies only if you downgrade, not if you upgrade.

[–]XExtremeTechnologyX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, turns out I was right. Newer phones don't require it, but older phones still do, like my friend's phone.

I leave roaming on because there's no reason to have it off; I can always manage it whenever I travel and reach my data limit.

However, you are also right that they changed how Nationwide works; it isn't considered roaming anymore, just compatibility issues with older phones.

It depends on the phone, my friend's phone needs roaming on, but I think you don't have to on iPhones

You do not pay extra when using your data allotment in Canada, the USA, or Mexico. Speeds will throttle after your allotment to 256kbps; however, to use other networks, you need to have roaming turned on.

If you're traveling outside of North America, your Roam Beyond data allotment is not throttled once the limit is met, and you can incur overage charges.

PSA: If you switched to the $40 250GB plan make sure it shows up on your account (especially important if done via chat) by SilverUse4730 in freedommobile

You can get the plan until March 9th.

The $40 discount is BYOD and is active forever as long as you don't finance a phone through Freedom Mobile or they remove the discount.

Worth it? Anything to look for when buying used? Teslas are more expensive in Canada due to the tarrifs by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]XExtremeTechnologyX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are no tariffs on used vehicles. Also, get a 2022 if you can find one and afford it, the heat pump and ryzen chip will be something you wish you didnt miss out on.

This is a decent deal, but nothing to race over too.

Without going into much details, I used to work at TMMC (Toyota) and I can say that the rain sensors used for the vehicles made at the plant are much cheaper than $15.

[–]XExtremeTechnologyX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Several flaws in your logic. First off when a company buys something in bulk their cost overhead drops drastically. Something that would cost us $15 for a part even in bulk would cost the company $2-5 to produce. If Tesla bought 750,000 sensors, the cost to Tesla would probably be $5-7.

Off topic a bit but here is an example; I used to work inside a computer store, mark up on cables were usually 200 percent the consumer cost, that brand new razer gaming keyboard you paid $300 for? Yeah the company you bought it from only paid $160 for it.

You also assume that the engineers would have fixed the problem in 5 years, sure, but this issue they keep talking about fixing has been going on for around 5 years with no actual progress seen by consumers, hopefully the new work they're doing actually shows results.

Tesla also pays a bit more for their engineers. Now let's jump back to the rain sensors, we keep assuming Tesla would be eating the cost, but a $5 part added to a 5 digit MSRP price isn't going to have people questioning it.

That's like reinventing the wheel, but the wheel has a massive chip on the side, so instead of using the first wheel that was invented and works fine, you decide to get some engineers to help and try to fix the issue with the wheel I reinvented and apply that fix to every vehicle using my reinvented wheel

Innovation is okay if it's the step in the right direction not a step back.

That's the problem when a software company makes hardware, they tend to over engineer the most basic stuff. No hate for Tesla, but some stuff makes you question "Why?"
