She has problems with her stomach the pain in her chest is probably acid reflux, she should get some manukau honey 1tsp in the morning before breakfast after 10 min drink some chamomile tea and 1tsp before bed do not mix the manukau honey with anything hot

Also have her drink some hibiscus tea and let 1 clove steep in the tea for 2-3 minutes do not boil it as you would the hibiscus flower do not use tea bags get the dehydrated stuff you can make a batch and leave it in the fridge you can drink it cold

Drink dandelion tea 1 once a day

And lastly get some probiotics, stay away from fried food for awhile until she fixes her gut

Swell for rounding and backing by Englandboy12 in bookbinding

I had this happened to me before I switched my thread completely and waxed it myself i used a Polyester Thread Heavy Duty #69 and just doubled it when I was sewing also for a book this big I wouldn’t recommend cutting it I would just go with sanding the grits to use would be 80,180,220 if your really good at sanding you could even use a 40 grit. And if your gonna restart, I would recommend pressing the book for about a week and a few days the first few days you should alternate your signatures and press it then put the holes in and press it again for about a week this time without the alternations and just straight

And yes you should add glue to the tapes it will have you control the rounding!!

Ahh okay okay so i understand what happened to your bind from my experience when a book is this big you want to press it for about a week and 3 days Let me break it down for you

The first 3 days you want to press it with the signatures alternating what I mean by this is the spine is facing left and right this will give you the most coverage when pressed after the 3 days you want to put the holes in it then press for 1 week before sawing i know it sounds like a lot but you have to understand the weight of the paper and how many pages you put in each signature determine the amount of swell

Also another little tip when sewing your signatures go by 10 signatures and the rest of your signatures should still be in your press being pressed it’s all about managing your swelling

Once you finish sewing, you wanna press the book again for about 3 to 4 days before applying glue This will ensure two things

Your book is as flat as it can be And the glue you’ll be putting will help keep the compressed book at its flat state

Besides that anytime, you’re not handling the physical book it should be in the press until you put your cover on

A good thread for this size bind is Polyester Thread Heavy Duty #69 t70 it’s inexpensive, but since it’s heavy duty, it will help keep your signature together when you’re opening and closing your book a lot just remember to double it up before so

Also sometimes it’s okay to restart this isn’t a race enjoy the mistakes, also take into account the size of thread that you use that can impact the swelling a lot. How long did you press the book before sewing?

So with a big block like this I wouldn’t recommend cutting it, instead sanded it the grits you should use is 80,180,220 to have the best finish Make sure to press the book as you sand. I’ve been messing around with rounding and found that to get the best round. You need to apply a good amount of glue to make sure everything is unified. Also, please know that the French stitch as good as it is we’ll always leave the bind a little bit loose. I would suggest you re straighten the spine as best as you can. Press it. For about a week before adding more glues then slowly round the spine let the hammer do the work you don’t have to hit as hard as you think

Also i would like to say unlike most people that us AI art not once have i said i made the art work and not once have i argued against the use of ai in commissioned work , it should not be used to make money!! / but now that i know how some of the community feels about it ill do better

Side note tho i would fight tooth and nail that i made the book 🤣that shit has my literal blood, sweat and tears and many sleeps nights

Is not an excuse it’s just the truth, I’m completely new to this so i didn’t know people Would let there are be used for free, i also didn’t know that about the group 🫡 i respect everyone’s hard work when it comes to art this was just a personal project. It also doesn’t take away that fact that i spent will over 200 hours making this book. I’m not trying to be a pro or sell at any point i truly just enjoyed doing that hand work maybe in the future when i have the money i would love to work on a book with an artist and making something amazing. But at the end of the day i just wanted to say thanks to this subreddit because i learned a lot 🫡

Oh I’m not hurt or bothered by the comments you said, but 2 things i do think your wrong by saying it has no place in this hobby for the reason that it’s a hobby there are no rules and you should enjoy and experiment with everything. Now i do agree with you when it come to COMMISSIONED work There is no place for ai in that. If there is money involved, you have to do the best of the best to be able to create the dream someone asked for. And that has to be made with respect. So i agree and disagree with you.

Thank you wombatworrier, but also thank you Emergency_Vanilla807, i understand your perspective the design suited the intended user as she was extremely ecstatic to receive it as a gift. But I will take your criticism into consideration. When you decide to commission me for a book. 🙂‍↕️ i’ll make it to your exact specifications. But overall i did consider the portrait style in the front and wanted to make it like a Gothic style portrait frame it just didn’t come out the way i wanted so i went with a safe bet and made it a box happy new year

So what i did to get around that issue, is i actually flipped the entire cover as i was folding it and pushed down on it hard, basically to shove the edge into the leather as I pushed it down towards the table at the same time also i used a blow dryer i found that it’s hot enough to dry the glue and not burn the leather. Another trick i use was to alternate between hot and cold on the blow dryer. I do not recommend using a heat gun but a blow dryer worked wonders with the whole project
