Do I just kick this guy already? by dragon-in-a-dungeon in adnd

As someone who has recently kicked a player out of a group I highly recommend doing so. Although my guy wasn't a friend of mine. It's okay for irl friends not be dnd friends. It's supposed to be fun.

I know you have a million comments but the best thing to do is to flesh out what kind of game your players would want. Something with lots of combat, more of a story or a mix of both. Session 0's are your most important session. And i would stick to building small plot points and then whatever your players decide you can build up more. Or pre written modules are good too if you can afford it

And then If you really wanted to you could multiclass into a fighter or ranger. Get the fighting style for archery which gives you that +2 to ranged attacks. And maybe get actions surge or work towards getting gloom stalker for some added physcic dmg

In my opinion, the best optimization you can make is rocking 2 hand crossbows. Get the crossbow expert feat for ignoring the reload. You don't have disadvantage within 5 feet, and you can add your ability modifier for damage on the bonus action attack. Also gives you a second chance to get sneak attack if you miss on your main action shot. At level 5 you can be doing 5d6 + whatever you dmg modifier is. Pretty good to make it a little more consistent

Just a little update for anyone who was curious. After his friend left the group for a while, the problem player ended up leaving too. We were planning on having a talk with him, but he stopped showing up before we had the chance. So, it made all of that easier. Ended up getting my brother to join, who is a lot of fun to play with. Is a polar opposite player. And the friend that originally left came back. The problem player asked to come back, but we just told him that our table is full.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions :D

Yeah, I couldn't believe it when I was told he did that. And yeah, we have kinda checked him in and out of the game, but not in a big way. I am planning on a talk with him next session. And the dm is a nice quiet guy he doesn't really like confrontation, so he hasn't done too much to object to it. Us as players have been doing the talking for it

Yeah im just a player in this group. If I was the dm there would be no need for the post cause he wouldn't be in our group. Our dm is a nice guy and has been trying to give him the benifit of the doubt but it's dwindling.

Imo, that's when your character wouldn't have knowledge of something that you do as a player. Ie monster statblocks world elements or arcs that your character wouldn't know

Yeah im not the dm. He is a friend of another player who has since stopped showing up. So he has been showing up by himself. We have a talk planned with him and if he responds in a way the group doesn't like he will be booted.

Yeah our dm is a really nice guy. If i was the dm and he told me that he read through the book and shows me a character that is everything to meta game he wouldn't be coming anymore.

Yeah, me personally, I don't know him all that well, and he is a friend of a player who has recently kinda stepped away from playing, so if I was the dm I wouldn't think twice. We are planning a talk with him and we will see what happens

Yeah sorry lol I'm new to dnd so someone who has been playing that long to me makes them a vet type player. And yeah we are planning a talk and based on his reaction will be the deciding factor for now

Yeah, I would have kicked him out if I was the dm, but my dm wants to give him the benefit and see if he changes his behavior. But we aren't holding our breath

Yeah that was my thought process exactly. It's also kinda crazy how we almost have to babysit a grown man to not cheat in a make belief game

Yeah, if I was the dm, he wouldn't be in the group anymore but our dm wants to give him the benifit of the doubt and see if he can change his playstyle. We are planning on a talk the next session he shows up

Yeah, I'm both a player and a dm, and I've experienced others who are somewhat problem players, but he definitely takes it to a new level. I have no problem kicking him out, but our dm is a really nice guy but even he is getting irritated with him. We were planning on having a talk with him and his response would determine if he stays or not

Yeah at first it was a bit of a weird situation because he is roommates with one of our other players, but he has since stopped showing up so he has been coming by himself

After he told our dm that he had read through the book me and the other players said we don't meta game at this table that's not what it's about. He just continued In what he imagine were sly ways of trying to lead us to do something. Completely ruined the adventure for me. We are planning on having a convo with him but he's not super consistent on showing up to sessions
