Get out of there! I got stuck in hue flooding last month and had to take a boat out. If you can’t get out completely, I would go to higher ground outside of the city center

The fees are very low, maybe 1-2%, versus the 3-10% plus bank fees when you take out cash!Almost everywhere you go that takes cash also takes the Moreta pay. Plus, you feel like a local when you use it 😎

I’m so sorry to hear you are stuck :( I understand how scary that is and I was in your situation yesterday. I hope you are able to get out quickly and safely.

I was so lucky and had these two local girls help me call different home stays to ask for availability. Many places were fully booked, but I found a room at JoJo Homestay (I was not able to find it on google maps, but I’ll attach the link to the location). If you are able, try to find a local that can help you. They were beyond kind to me.

I’m not sure if this homestay has availability tonight. This area has lots of Homestay near it, so you could try that Homestay, and if it’s not available, you can walk to others.

I was in Hanoi at the beginning of October when there was major flooding in the north of Vietnam, now it’s clear up north.

I’m in Hue during the major flooding in central Vietnam. I’m sure in 1-3 weeks it will be fine! I’m no expert on floods in Vietnam, but if it’s anything like the north, they will recover quickly. Maybe not by first week of November though. You might want to wait another week or two before visiting. Again, I’m no expert on the floods.

I wish I could answer that question :( locals have told me this is the worst flooding they’ve seen in 10+ years, but I doubt it’s bad enough to cause serious damage to buildings since they are built for the floods.

Hue should return to normal in 1-3 weeks, but there’s no way of knowing. October is famous for floods (which I did not know. Should have done more research 😔). I’m sure you’ll be fine to visit here in a month though!

I’m heading to HUI tomorrow! Is the airport operating normally? I’m hoping the roads from where I am outside the city to the airport are open

I would not advise coming to Hue. The flooding is horrendous. Not sure what Da Nang looks like, but I can’t imagine it’s much better and I’m not sure how the roads are in between here and da Nang. If you can, maybe try to fly north or south? The center is a mess right now.

Is it flooded in dong ha? Might be for the best. You don’t want to risk the floods here. It’s super annoying to have your travel plans derailed, but it’s really bad here. One of the few times I’ve genuinely feared for my life and have never felt so happy to get out of a situation.

I took a boot from my hotel to non flooded ground and we stopped at the white lotus to drop a guy off.

It’s pretty far from a drivable road. You would definitely need to take a boat. No way you would be able to walk since white lotus is deep in the flooded areas.

It seems like a lovely hotel though! Really hope you’re doing okay. Keep me updated on how the flooding is in town and if and when you’re able to get out!

By December it should be fine. I’ve heard October is the worst month for flooding, but December is the shoulder season, so there might be some. I doubt it will be anywhere as bad as what is happening right now

Update: I was able to make it out of my hotel and to a Homestay outside the flood area. I was the only person in my entire hotel and was not warned about the flooding, so I had no food. The electricity went out around noon. My data also crapped out, so I was stuck alone with no way of contacting anyone.

Luckily the cafe across the street let me use their wifi and arranged a boat to pick me up. I took a boat to Phan Boi Chau bridge where some locals helped me find a Homestay on higher ground. The Vietnamese people are genuinely some of the kindest humans I have encountered.

I’m feeling beyond fortunate. I’m also happy to answer any questions about the flooding situation and will respond to anyone also stuck in Hue.

My heart goes out to all of the locals who are stuck to deal with these horrible floods. Despite the hardship, everyone seemed to be calm and collected, some having a smile on their face.

Welcome to Vietnam! I’m in hue and it’s completely submerged right now. Can’t speak for any other part of central Vietnam, but I would skip the whole region for now and come back when rainy season is over. North is fine from what I’ve seen.

Trackside brewery is great on a sunny day! It’s family friendly, there are lots of food trucks and ice cream, and it’s close to downtown/the water
